Regtransfers.co.uk... - Anyone dealt with them? ...Process??
Discussion
Guys,
Looking for some feedback! Registration Transfers Limited - I've bought a plate (or at least put a downpayment upon a plate) from the above company - has anyone here had any dealings with them??
They've sent me throught a letter asking for the full amount (several thousand) and in the letter, at the very end, they say "Your rights under the consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 were lost on receipt of this letter." Which rings alarm bells somewhat! It's almost like they are preparing for legal action? They also state that "Should the transfer fail for any reason through our default all money will be refunded"...but surely it's more likely that the transfer will fail due to the seller/vendor of the plate making a cock up/not going through with it etc.....than the brokers fault? So they could hang onto the cash saying it wasnt THEIR problem that caused the transfer to fail!
Plus they have also sent me a blank form to "Transfer a registration number" (V317) they just want me to sign it but put no other details on it?? I've done an HPI check and the number isn't currently on a vehicle...so surely they should be using a different form rather than the Transfer a Vehicle Registartion number form? I thought the current owner just signed his retention certificate and it went onto my vehicle?...or does that only work when the V5 and retention certificate are in the same name??
They've also asked that I send them my V5.
Maybe I'm just being paranoid so I'd appreciate someone telling me this is all the norm!....and they are a reliable outfit??

Are you sure the number isnt available elsewhere?? Many reg number companies have the same number advertised at different money/price...............I have dealt with Regtranfers and thought they were ok........can you pay on credit card for added security?
PCD,
Yeah the number was available at a number of places but Regtransfers had the cheapest deal by a decent amount. Unfortunatley they are asking for the balance by cheque!

crap company don't touch with a bargepole!!
they will be giving the vendor a couple of thousand and pocketing a couple of grand themselves for nothing - find out who owns the plate and go direct to them and save yourself a few grand and have a month in the carribbean!! Job done!

I actually found out that the plate was purchased via a DVLA auction 2 years ago - the price I'm paying is only a few hundred more than the plate was originally purchased for. I do know that the seller reduced the price significantly recently for a quick sale so actually it does look like a good deal (possibly too good?) as similar plates are up for thousands more.
Aside from the fact that in your opinion they are Dick Turpin reincarnate, are there any other concerns about the company??
If I was happy with the price I wouldn't have a problem buying through them again. I've previously bought two plates through them. An expensive plate for someone else in 1991 and a plate they secured for me from the DVLA when the "R" plates were launched.

Yep, had two painless transfers with them. Good comms when reminding you about numbers on retention.
As for the comment about buying and inflating the prices - they are in the business to sell plates at a profit - whats the problem there?
My old Ultima plate was bought for £325. They valued it last year for £1500 if I can get half of that then I would be happy, although I am quite happy to sit on it as a lot of people think it spells SLUT

I have sold a plate through them about a month ago, only gripe was that it took a while for the paperwork to sort out. My mate bought a plate from them about 6 months ago and didn't have any problem.
If you have any trouble, drive to Dunstable and pay them a visit!

They constantly advertised my TVR plate for nearly £2k even though I told them I didn't wish to sell it.
However, I did eventually ask how much they'd like as commision on their sale when they did have a buyer and contacted me and they said they wanted £1600
And I'd also pay the buyers transfer fees!
Yeah right - where did I dock my banana boat

This has got to be bull shit, they can't decide which laws they abide by. Phone trading standards and ask them.
I have always wondered how RegTransfers sells enough plates to cover there massive advertising overheads.
Due to the massive commissions they demand, there must be so many "dead" plates out there.
By this I mean the owner would be open to a reasonable offer, but has only advertised through RegTransfers which makes the plate unreasonable due to the artificially high price.
You see loads of plates on their site that have been there for years and years.

I've found a lot of plates they advertise are available through the DVLA direct, and more cheaply. More often than not the advertised Reg Transfer price is plus VAT, whereas the DVLA price (usually the same advertised price) is inclusive of VAT.
An easy way of quickly fooling someone unobservant into thinking the plates are the same price at both.
I've bought a couple of plates through the DVLA and the experience has been utterly painless.
