Broken seat post. Am I walking home?
Discussion
Morning chaps.
My seat post broke on me this morning. Fortunately didn't do any damage, but I think I have lost a bit of the mounting plate in the dark.
My problem is my commuting bike is a 10 year old retro Yeti and I can't seem to find a shop (near Rotherham) that has a reasonable quality 26.8mm diameter post. Seems to be quite an odd size.
Presumably I can order one from the States on the interweb, but that leaves me with a 15 mile walk this evening!
Any ideas?

Do you know what a normal size would be? I've got loads of stuff I could use as a shim at work.
Not sure about standing all the way home. I've got a lift sorted if needs be. Once I'm home I've got plenty of time to sort out a new one. Will just have to use the Orange in the mean time.

Take the lift, and use the Orange while the other bike is being sorted.
Just out of interest, how'd you damage a seat post on a commute to work? What kind of nutter route do you take?

That's what I'm thinking. Shouldn't take too long to get one that's the right size.
Commute is 15 miles, Mostly fairly gently off road on the Trans Pennine. Bearing in mind the post is a good 10 years old I think it has failed either by fatigue or too many mince pies over Christmas. Possibly both.

Nice, but this is 90g lighter (then + shim) and half the price.

I'm a bit out of touch.

You're not missing much. You'd be better buying a BMX Odyssey Intac post for £15 and cutting it down.
Why? Simply one of the best seatposts out there - I recommended it to Mechsympathy as he wanted something that wouldn't bend - and knowing Snycros ain't all that anymore, Thomson really really are one of the best alu seatposts out there - (Easton EC70s for carbon).
Why you so argumentative Moley these days?
Edited to add: Doesn't a lovely Yeti like that deserve something trick?

I'm not argumentative, we just have different opinions. The Odyssey Intac is a very strong post and having held them both at the the same time the weight of the Odyssey is great and it's a long post. Cut down a bit it will be light and very strong. It's £15 and made out of 6061 T6 alu. The Thomsons are great posts, I'm not disputing that, I just think that the Odyssey is a fantastic alternative for the money. If he wants something trick then you probably can't beat the Thomson. It's just a pity Hope don't make posts, cos they'd be the bestest.

Hope seatpost comes out in the next few months.
I had a Thomson materpiece on my XC bike which unfortunatley got nicked... It was utterly gorgeous.
Loing the old school yeti.... have you looked on www.yetifan.com ?
Some nice stuff on there.

Not seen that before.

I've also got a really oldschool Yeti FRO that I had before the Kokopelli. It's got seized elastomer Manitou 1s and circa 1990 LX stuff on it. (I pillaged all the good stuff for the Kokopelli). That has got some really odd dimensions on it and is even harder to get anything replaced on it. Still a light bike, though.
Other than the forks it is spot on and is currently in use by my Dad for pottering around in the New Forest.

I was so struggling not to post "So why doesn't Hope make one then if they're so great?"
Edited to add: Bollocks they're bringing one out...
