Campaign carry’s on (advice needed asap, Ebay Query)
Discussion
Ok so my campaign of building a budget F/s Xc bike continues…
I’m now the proud owner of a Marin East Peak which I got for a good price and now looking to Forks….
Now I know these are a lot harder to buy second hand due to the fragile nature of some forks
So should I buy second hand a go for these 06 RockShox Sids (w/o poplock) at £100 - £150
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rockshox-SID-Ra
Or go for a set of Manitou R7 OE Forks which are new etc from wiggle at £155
Need an answer in the next 30 – 40 mins as that’s when the auction ends and I have no one to ask who would have a clue on what I should do
Cheers guys

Bit late now but unless you're a fatty I'd go for the SIDs. They're great forks. I'm not that impressed with modern Manitous except the Nixon and Travis. Rest have poor quality internals (plastic when it should be metal etc).
There's always a few pairs of SIDs on ebay if you're after a pair.

yer i've read that some people say they flex under full on riding!!
But then i think well im near on 13 stone (12,10) and cant see me flexing them that much...
As you say there's always a pair up on ebay so will wait for some new ones to pop up or save some pennies up and buy new. Although i cant justify spending 250+ on forks when i ride every other sunday....
anyway cheers

Wiggle do R7's for £155?
Blimey.
Anyhoo, SIDs are fine, but need more maintenance than say a set of Pyslos. To be honest, unless you are looking at uber money for a set of SID Races or World Cups, you may consider a set of second hand Psylo Races, light(ish) and bulletproof.
Manitous are not all that in terms of quality, and R7s, although I hear they are light, I would be careful, as Manitous do have a tendency to break, and OE forks do NOT come with a warranty.
Its a shame, but Marzocchi have taken their eye off the ball with their cheaper XC forks, concentrating more on the freeride forks, and as a result have a poor range.
Fox are awesome, but weight is their thing, more bulletproofness and silky ride.
I'd go with the Psylos myself, I loved mine when I had em'
love my World Cups more though

I've just fitted those R7 forks from Wiggle on my Rockhopper. They are so much lighter than the Manitou Axels forks I took off.
I can discribe how well the bike feels now on my local trails. The lockout also is superb. Makes the front end feel solid.
The SIDS i've been told are a bit flimsey if your fairly heavy in weight.
But £155 for th R7's. How can you go wrong at that price.
