Had she been used regularly before that or was she a bit of a garage queen there too?
Could it be you left her warming up before setting off and you just didn't notice?

Mine is very relucatant to go from 1 to 2 when very cold, but absolutely fine when warm.
I wouldn't worry unduly. From memory gearbox oil is changed at 48K and 96K.
There are lots of posts on Rennlist debating the merits of different types of gearbox oil if you're interested.

140?
What was he? A bloomin architect? I would have thought a lighter grade of oil could help in winter but if she's not in use much then it's really not worth the faff.

he owned a geneva based investment bank - cash-ola in the extreme
only sold the car as he'd been told by the guy who looks after his collection that he'd run out of room...
true, only went for a spin to blow out the cobwebbs
Both my 993TT and GT2 are a pain when cold, it only lasts for a mile or so, i tend to miss second out and go from 1st to third, rather than have a fight with the gearstick.
When its fully warned up and on the track its never been a problem, which is where it really matters. If its baulking at high revs or when warmed up then yes i would be concerned.

For info, ignoring the yank oils not readily available to us europeans, my research on the matter lead me to select Mobilube 1 SHC 75W-90, a fully synthetic gearbox oil.
No problems with selecting 2nd in my 993 even when cold - maybe mileage and synchro wear related?

Took the 993 for a spin yesterday and had trouble selecting 2nd gear when the engine/gearbox oil was cold, no probs after a few miles.
This has never happened before, is it a trait I'll have to live with or will it free up with a change of G/B oil?

Every 993 I've had (4 of them, 3 na and currently a tt) has done this.....as mentioned here it stops after a couple of miles.
Nothing to worry about - when cold I just take longer than usual moving from 1st to 2nd to about the baulk.
I've noticed renewing the oil does improve it though not completely....maybe it's synchro.
I'm currently battling with the garage and Finance company because of this very problem in my '03 986 S. I'ts a known issue and in my case it's gone from being a occasional problem in the cold to being a persistant yet intermittant problem at all times.
The gearbox has been out 3 times over the space of 3 months at 2 seperate places to be fixed but the the problem is still there.
I don't want to worry you, I'm sure that your problem isn't as bad as mine but I've even had Porsche confirm that there is a definate faulty gearbox problem even though it's had all of the second gear assemblies including syncros replaced.
I've finally managed to convince the garage that they need to replace the gearbox with a brand new unit at cost to them of over £4K.
No car, let alone a performance car such as a 911 or boxster should ever have such a problem.
If it's under warranty I'd STRONGLY advise you get it in to be looked at asap!
