chrome headlamp ring...

Hello all,

I dont suppose anyones got a spare one I can buy / have?

One of mine fell off on way into work today, & then got ran over by a bus or something.

Tried calling all scrappies for 20 miles around, no luck.

Or if someone knows of a decent mini / landrover place near here? (leicester)

Got mine from Stafford Vehicle Components £9 each. Can't recommend them though as chrome peeling off already after 2 years!!!! Will probably replace with some black ones from TVRCarparts. If you do an S3 forum search I expect you'll find some more suppliers recommended.

For some reason I thought they come off of an old Mini, I could be wrong.

You can definitely get them from Mini suppliers, again I think you pay more for the better ones! Only thing to watch for is how they are secured - I had to make a small L bracket on mine to suit the TVR mounting as opposed to the mini mounting.

:nod: Try any mini specialist. Mini Spares, Mini Sport, Summerford, etc. They are off most classic cars.

I GOT MINE FROM MINI SPARES IN OLDBURY,THEY DO THEM IN CHROME OR CHROME PLATED,BUT THEYRE ACTUALLY OFF AN MGB,FIT PERFECT BUT NEED TO DRILL SCREW HOLE.ABOUT £13-£20 RESPECTIVELY FOR THE TWO

I purchased a couple of headlamp rings a few months ago from David Gerald Sportscars (www.davidgeraldtvr.com/). They were about £25 each and fit no problem.

Could also be a morris minor.
If you go for stafford, get the chrome covered copper...no rust!!!!

well, saw them on ebay etc, they are off most things old - landrover, morris minor, mini, mgb, even some tvr's have them fitted!!!

went onto breakeryard.com & they sent me a reference number & phone number, called it at 3.30pm, paid my £15.00 including vat & delivery & recieced both the ring & a mini headlamp at 11.30 this morning!

Bargain.

just needed a quick buff on the polishing wheel.

Ok, they are off most things, MGB, Mini, MGA, anything old.

I had a load of them at one point but they seem to deplete as we have so many minis.

They are not a sepcial fitting.

That little retaining strap cut from the side of a baked bean can is a TVR special though - without that, the little beggars'll keep falling off.

Hot melt glue gun. Easy on. Holds really well.

Cheers Wildfire, thats the cheapest I have seen them, so have ordered a pair and ordered some wipac quadoptics via ebay too (£31.00 incl H4's and sidelight bulbs etc)... I dont know where to buy the baked bean tin tab though... maybe the glue would be better ?

I used a piece cut from a large stainless steel jubilee clip (the flat part)

Good tip. The one I took off had a large screw head which obsured the screw head into the bodywork so i had a hell of a job getting the old one off. Think I'll pop-rivet the new one in place...

The point is: you don't BUY the baked bean tin tab - you cut the bit out of a baked bean tin, and pop rivet it on. That's why it's called a baked bean tin tab, see?

For the avoidance of doubt, tins which previously contained carrots, peas, spam, sardines or pears in juice would also suffice (see that you wash the pear juice off first though, it can be awfully acidic and could accelerate rust) along with a large variety of other tinned produce.

Of course you can buy them with the tab already attached for 5 times the price of mini ones, if that's your thing

Nah thats not my thing... I dont like to buy anything if i can avoid it. I did get the bean tin tip by the way... I might be a Geordie, and i do have an S3 but I'm not that thick perhaps i should use a Broon Ale tin tab eh ?

They're not partiularly well afixed in the first place and I think it's some thing to do with the little tab. I've lost around 3 off my mini and one off my S3, my brothers who also have minis have each lost a few.
