Sometimes ND Grads need to be turned 180
Discussion
(I know some of you may have seen this - posted on my site today, so sorry for the re-post)
But really... how often do you have to turn a grad grey upside down to get the pic!? I've been trying to get a photo of this tree for weeks and the photo light God finally obliged. I mean how strange is that sky?
click on it to unsquash.
edit to add.. the sun was as high in the sky as it gets.

Nice.
I have a similar effect (though nothing like as good a shot) of a scene from Northumberland (or somewhere up that way) when the sun was doing something similar to winter trees against a dark sky. No filter to hand though, nor much of a camera as I recall, and the light only lasted about 10 minutes. Not seen such a thing again in the last 5 years.
Is that a black wheelie bin on the fence line just to the right of the tree? Surely not? Looks odd though and I can't think what else it might be - unless a cow?

I thought it was a wheelie too... actually it's just a bush that's in the shadow of the tree. I think it has aspirations (but no wheels).
edit to add... maybe it's time for the olde shoppe

Can you repost the wheelie bin? I feel I have missed out.

Blimey there's no peace in this place
wheelie:
Hmm.
Whilst removing unsightly human creations from a landscape is praiseworthy now that it is clear this 'bin' in indeed a bush one should perhaps have second thoughts ...
... on the other hand the dark nature of the bush in the unmodified image was something I personally found distracting.
Perhaps one might suggest not so much removal of the bush, now that we know it is a bush, as recolouring the bush to a nice medium or pale shade so that blends more with the background. Seems to work OK in a colour sense for the trees behind the bush.
I suppose the only danger would making it looke like a green wheelie rather than a black one ....
Thoughts anyone? A poll perhaps?
Got to keep GC occupied somehow or we might be inundated with food shots ...
