still thinking about an upgrade, mainly because the rear seats in the 968 cab are getting too tiny for teenage daughters. Dont want a 996 (too grown up for me) but a 993 would probably fit the bill with just enough extra legroom in the rear (plus a few other benefits ) Ive seen a few 964 "celebration" at the same sticker price as a good-ish 993 (i.e 25K). Am i right in thinking these are normally aspirated turbo-bodied 964 with a 993 interior? How would the celebration compare with the 993 as a daily driver? are they rear or 4wd? comparatively similar to run?

I think all Celebrations were based upon Carrera 4s, and they were all fitted with the Turbo wings and skirts, but not the whale-tail spoiler. 993 interior? Not sure - certainly very highly specced, with leather sports seats, electric everything and air conditioning. Cars were finished in either silver or Viola metallic, a model-specific colour. Likely to retain more value than a normal, pre-Varioram 993 - there was only 911 cars made to this spec, and only 41 made it to the UK.

Hope this helps.

Everything he said, but I dont think you will find anymore leg room in a 964 if anything there will be less. From experience I would say anyone over 6-7 would struggle to fit in.

ah. damn. another fine plan bites the dust. in truth its well over a year since I drove either a 964 or a 993 and i was in the front seat at the time, paying far more attention to the road ahead than the seats behind! i remember thinking that the rear legroom was ok for a small adult but my memory may be faulty. is the 993 any more roomy in the rear?

At a guess, I'd say anyone under about 5 ft tall should be okay. My daughter, at 5 ft 3 ins was having to watch her head, but was okay for reasonably short journeys. The problem is as much foot space as headroom, especially if the front seat is set for anyone over about 5 ft 6 ins. I'd say the 993 was fine for a couple of children up to about 12, unless they're above average height. Hope that helps.

I dont think the 993 is noticeably any bigger than 964 as both are built on prety much the same chassis. However I'd still buy the car, and introduce your daughters to public ransport!!

The LHD Celebration has a 993 dash with a passenger airbag - perhaps due to stricter legislation on the continent in '93. I don't know if the 993 has anymore space in the rear than a 964 though.

I've got a Celebration - see January's Total 911 magazine - and carry my two kids, aged 8 and 5, in the back without problems (apart from say minor whiplash when I touch the loud pedal ).

Worth pointing out that LHD 911 of the original chassis (new G series 3.2 and turbo, 964, 965, and 993) all have more legroom for the driver than a RHD car.

This is due largely to the horribly offset pedals in the RHD cars.

Hope this helps.

So buy a LHD anything and be happy that this is how it was designed to feel!!

.. Ah softie , me auld segotia!! .. when will you learn that the 996 awakens the kid in us all .. I was 40 going on 63 when I got mine .. It's the only thing keeping me young these days

.. It's so leagues ahead of it's predecessors when it comes to useable back seat space .. I'm no giant , but I can sit for short journeys in the back of mine .. I've tried the same in the back of 993's nono
.. So if the choice is coming down to 996 or leaving the fold ... need I continue...
