Hi,

I have been admiring the photoshop work on here for a while, but haven't posted anything as yet! I have a couple of photos of my car that I really like. If anyone has any suggestions / comments on what to do for composition and what can be done in photoshop?

I am looking to get into more digital photography in the new year. Hope you like them.

Before working on Photoshop, I'd first pay attention to details in the foreground and background when taking pictures. I've found the white flowers popping out of the car a bit distracting (as it looks like the car's wearing a silly hat! - I know I've got a good imagination! ), but it can be easily 'corrected' in Photoshop with a clone brush. Second shot is a bit more tricky as those loose branches are in the foreground. Those things in the foreground can often work but I don't think it does in this case, I'm afraid.

First one is a nice piccie. The second is let down by the shadow on the front of the car.

What were you wanting to enhance with PS? My choice with the first picture woul be to try and make the car a bit more red. It looks kind of dull red.

I agree. I really, really liked photoshop for the way it could "rescue" really poor photos I'd taken and make them "acceptable". But I found I was taking AGES on each shot I tried to rescue and a lot were just so poor it wasn't worth the time.

Then (I think) le gravy noir from this site started talking about how he was moving further away from PS and more in to getting the shots right in the first place (if you can't be inspired by his portfolio - you never will!). I kind of eventually took this on board and have tried to start doing it myself. Now, I'm not so foolish or ambitious as he is to go back to film and "basic" technology - but I have to say, it's a great feeling when you get a really decent shot from your camera straigh - rather than having to process it in PS first.

I've done this too with the same inspiration. Maybe i'm just lazy but if i need to spend more than a few minutes in PS/PSP on a photo then it's not work spending the time on as it's not up to scratch in the first place.

just to clarify, I meant I'm not foolish enough to think I'm good enough. Unlike Matt - who is good enough.

There.

That's better.
