Depends which kind of car snobbery you're on about.
I used to be an anti-laxxer snob, but I've eased off as I've come to understand that there are two types - those who tune, and those who pretend to have tuned but have in reality just added a huge power-sapping stereo. So I have to have had a look under the bonnet before I call them a tosser.
There are three types of modern car snob (none of which are found on PH) that I can't stand though. They are:
'The brand' snobs. People who claim to be a performance nut and a 'real driver', but who will buy a BMW 116 with cloth seats and no CD player in preference to a Ford Focus ST because of the 'premium brand image of the halo effect in the XYZ-segment of the ABC-sector' or something. In reality all they're bothered about is depreciation or, more to the point, how their bank manager will respond to the finance agreement they took out to buy it.
The 'what reg is it?' snobs. People who seem to be of the impression that any car built yesterday is better than anything built last year, regardless of what it is, who made it, how fast it is, what it cost etc. Typically, they buy a base-model supermini for £8k every other year and think it's more prestigeous than a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow because it's got a warranty and damped-action cupholders or something.
The 'Do you own one?' snobs. People who own cars that you know are shite, and about which you can reel endless bits of info condemning them ad nauseum (don't get me started on Micras, for example), but the owners of which think are the greatest car the world has ever seen (but it's the only car they've ever driven), and seem to be under the impression that you can only say something bad about it if you've actually gone out and bought one. There is no point explaining the ridiculousness of this stance with these unreasonable people...

Does make me laugh when people don't even know what they are worried about so they have to seek validation of their car choice from people off the internet!

But I have had first-hand experience of all the Micras as my Mum's side of the family won't drive anything else. The shortcomings of the packaging alone could inspire a litany of complaints.
But explain that to someone who's just asked your opinion of their Micra, having chosen it over whatever you recommended to them...

In a way yes, having never driven anything else they wont have the breadth of experience to actually know if anything is crap or not, plus individual tastes vary. Automotive journalists on the other hand are probably overly harsh sometimes, but you'd be suspicious if they didn't find anything wrong with a car.
