Hi all - I'm considering buying a used 997 Carrera 2...one of the first to get the lowest possible price. The one's I'm looking at invariably don't have many options on them...which is fine. Except for the SatNav module which I do want for resale and practical reasons.

Does anyone know if you can buy the module and fit it retrospectively to a car that didn't have it from the factory? I know this was a nightmare on 996's and Boxsters cas they didn't have the screen etc. But the 997's do have the screen...so am hoping it's just a case of fitting the module itself plus the DVD player for the navi disk. Any ideas?

Cheers,
J.

I think you can but it is more pricey that it would have been if fitted at the time of purchase. Got to be around £2k at a guesstimate. Ring an OPC they'll tell u.

I wouldn't bother with it personally, get a smart phone with Tom Tom on it instead and save at least £1500.

That's likely going to be expensive. I thought of retrofitting the phone to my satnav and cost was prohibitive as all the wiring for the handsfree etc. would need to be fitted. I'm sure there is a catch with the satnav itself as well...

It is do-able - £2k is about right from memory - just make sure if you buy one without it, its priced accordingly (IE £2k less than one with Nav). The phone is on-top of that if it doesn't have that already.

Yes there are people who have retrofitted the sat nav.I looked into having it done on my 997(which does not have sat nav),and reading about it on the American forums I decided it wasnt worth the money(some say its not a great system plus I only tend to go to places I know nowardays anyway!)Beware buying a secondhand DVD unit either-it must be coded specially to the PCM it is being attached to-a main dealer job.

I was never a great fan of Porsche's PCM. Certainly PCM1 was pretty basic and PCM2 never matched the standards of other mainstream manufacturers.

But, the very latest system (inc. the phone) is actually pretty good and works well. Not sure if it is worth the cost of retro-fit, but makes sense when new.

Anyone know when the '07 disc comes out?
