So how much would you pay for a 2001 108k Turbo 996? I saw one and it said 'make me an offer'

your thoughts gentlemen and ladies?

Boy , Am I interested in the comment on this one.

.. My thoughts?............

If you're getting it a good 5k below a normal mileage TT , and it passes an OPC inspection , you can throw the warranty on it until it hits 125k miles (I think)

From all I've read (I'm not for a moment suggesting I've first hand experience) , a well looked after TT engine should push WELL into the 150k's plus and beyond before you're looking at re-builds etc.

I think a full service history would be a must if you were considering it .. It'd need the stamp for every year , not the usual 'missing the middle bit' full service history..

I'd rather see a series of service invoices from one of the best independents, rather than rubber stamps from OPCs, some of whose mechanics are not exactly rocket scientists.

but they are very good at a) thrashing the life out of your car on a test run and b) dragging their knuckles along the ground in a simian sort of way

And kerbing your wheels.

A car I once went to see showed up around 30 rev range 2 hits from the time the car was brought off the previous owner to the time i was going to buy it.

dunno if this will help but from this months Glass"s guide

2001 996 cpe turbo
01x = £41200
01y= £42500
o1 51= £44500

all trade in prices at 30,000 miles. retail value is £7,000 above trade value !

in glass"s they dont have a selected mileage table for that model, so above figures are not much help.. on the strongest mileage table 1Q it only reduces the value by £4000 at 110,000 miles ,Sounds unrealistic to me , sure everyone would love to add 80,000 miles and only loose £4000!! If this is the case my advice would be to go for a lower mileage model! I would agree with a sub £30k offer but think there will be people out there that will value it higher ..

Good call. I doubt it will sell at that but Turbos with low miles are £45 - £50K at the moment...so given the possibility of relatively expensive mileage related maintenance being required...

The car's probably more genuine that a load of low mileage cars....

the miles would not put me off, but obviously its gonna need to be cheaper than the average car... I reckon its about £32k, so long as paint, general condition, and service history are good...

if it was my car I wouldn't part with it for much less !

and the OPC are also good at forgetting to screw the alternator on propperly when they replace the belt resulting in a grands worth of repairs only a month later, I've had enough of main dealers (had several issues with the landrover too in the past month) so its specialists only from here on, I still need to write that ballistic letter to OPC asking nicely for my money back, ill let you know the outcome.

I absolutely agree .. I didn't even hint at it needing a full PORSCHE service history .. An indies stamp would be good enough for me ,my point was, alarm bells would go off if the service intervals were on the skimpy side...

I do think an OPC warranty would be comfort til you got to know whether the car had any foibles though.

The 993 engines are reputed to be good for 300,000 Kilometers.

The turbo engine has common roots.

It is my experience that it is extremely difficult to drive a car of this power, flat out for long.

Maybe the tyre and brake history will disclose any real risk ?

So based on your comments above as long as she has a full service history and is in good condition then I reakon £30,000 is a reasonable price. Its a hell of a car really!!

Just ask you friendly OPC tecchy to plug in his laptop.......I know of a 997 turbo demonstrator on its 2nd engine after it was lent to a customer. When it came back sounding like a bag of spanners they plugged in and took a load of readings. There are 4 levels of over revving I think, and it is time linked so they know when it was abused.
I think the recordings are required to get authorisation for a warranty claim. If they can see massive driver abuse they kick out the claim.....so you better watch out!
