Anyone experienced a baaad rattle in a Boxster 986S? Its coming from the engine area, is worse going over bumps and when starting up. Sounded reaally awful this morning - hence booking into Guildford OPC for a diagnosis.

Started to notice it shortly after the last service - which I suspect may have something to do with it...

Anyone?

I once had a Boxster that developed a very tinny rattle. There are some thin aluminium heat shields on top of exhausts and the rivets/screws perished. Kneel down and take a look (when the engines cold though!! )

Yep!
It was a loose heatshield. Fixed under warranty.
6 months later (and out of warranty) the OPC picked up another instance of "loose heatshield" during a routine service, and tried to charge me for fixing it saying it was "the other one". Fortunately, on production of the previous job sheet in which they'd stated "rectified loose heatshields" they kindly agreed to do it for free rolleyes

Thanks chaps!

Glad to know it was fixed under warranty - I have an extended warranty and if they tell me its the heat shields I will be sure to be mentioning this....

They're only pence to fix.... It's just the securing bolts that always seem to corrode away as opposed to the shields themselves.
