Can any body recommend a good direction to take? Do I have my unit remapped or do you buy off the shelf. Also does anyone know how often the original unit meters the fuel compared to upgrade. Sorry if this has already been discused.

It depends...

If you plan only a one-time change, such as a new cam, then remap what you've got.

If you expect to be making a series of upgrades, then you may want to consider the new ECU route. Emerald and VEMS get a regular mention on here, and digging deeper you'll find quite a variety of solutions have found their way into TVRs.
