Giving serious thought to swapping my 2002 3.6 Carrera for a cayman S, has anyone done this and what do you think?, any regrets?.

Want to come up a few years, my local OPC has a demo on their website in Guards red (just love that colour!), may give them a call and see what they will offer me for mine.

Ideally would like to have a 997 but i just cannot stretch to one at the moment, searched through the used car locator last night and the choice in gurads red produced just one car!, does nobody else like this colour?.

My concern is that I may regret not waiting for a 997, they are unique which is part of the appeal.

If you really want a 997, then suggest you wait.

In any case, try driving the Cayman - it's a different experience to the 911.

I think the Cayman feels claustrophobic after the 996/7.

Bought a 911 (997) as it was a boyhood dream to own one. Best car I've ever owned and never regretted it for a moment. Had a Cayman S as a loan car once and loved it - the only car I'd trade the 997 in for.... but only once Porsche fit a powerkit to it...!!

Have driven one, my father bought one earlier in the year-was running in so could'nt push it but it did feel more "neutral" if I can use that phrase to describe the handling. My 996 does feel lively on a poor road surface at speed.

Will have to try one and give it a more extended road test.

I agree with you there. After having a 997 for a while I thought it was much more spacious! Mind you, this isn't necessarily bad. Back in the Cayman, it felt more like a tighter, smaller, fun car with the 911 being it's grown up big brother.

Porsche felt the air-cooled engine had reached the end of its development and altered it to an air cooled engine without too much anxiety over debasing the model

Would that be the moving from the 3.2 to the 3.6 in the 964?

mileman,

I've just done a quick search on Porsche's used car locator and found 6 red Cayman S models in used stock ranging from £43,849 (Cambridge OPC) to £52,995 (Sheffield OPC).

The cayman clearly has it on looks, just wondered if the extra poke of the M made it worthwhile?
