As a relatively new owner of a Mk2 GT3 (2004)I have a few questions for all you learned gentlemen out there:
1) The roof lining vibrates annoyingly as does one door panel to a lesser extent. Are they prone to this?
2) Does this model have any form of traction control? There doesn't seem to be any mention of it in the handbook.
3) What are the best tyres? Do the cup tyres (that they now to fit as standard on the new GT3)work on this model - mainly for road work?

1. Not that i'm aware of (mk2s i've been in have been vibration free)
2. Nope - no factory TC
3. Pirelli's P Zeros are favoured for road use.

I thought you'd have been aware of 2. before buying? Anyway hope this helps.

Thanks Dunc.
Funnily enough I never even thought about it having traction control but then I read so much about other models having it, I just wondered. First Porsche for me so still taking it a little easy and being careful not to overcook it! Sticks fantastically and handles great but different to mid engine cars that I have been used to.

no
no rolleyes
if you're doing mainly road work, it's not a good idea fitting cup tyres unless for bragging rights rolleyes. Michelin PS2s were standard on the Mk2 GT3 and are an excellent road tyre.

Hi, my passenger door card used to rattle and it bugged the hell out of me. I solved it eventually by taking an old credit card, folding it up and jamming it between the card and the door frame. Seems the plastic clip was a bit loose. It's now survived several track days without a rattle.

Alternatively, get the brembo floating discs fitted and they will rattle so loudly you wont be able to hear anything else!

The roof lining on my turbo made a noise (it did have a sun roof though). You can get the roof lining off by peeling it down where it joins the rear screen. Then you will be able to see if it is anything obvious.

And i agree on the cups, I have toyos for the track but never use them on the road as they are a bit leathal in the wet.

I've got an intermittent roof vibration noise also. Goes away if reach back and hold the roof just above the rear window so the culprit is thereabouts.

Tyres are standard fitment Michelin Pilot Sport N2's.

** Door panels, yes has been known...also the passenger airbag frame. Roof lining not heard of before. Have dealer sort it.

2) Does this model have any form of traction control? There doesn't seem to be any mention of it in the handbook.
** Nope!

** Pilot Sport 2 N2 was the OEM tyre. Not to be confused with previous genraion Pilot Sport N2, which is nowhere near is as good.

The best tyre in my experience is the Pirelli Corsa System...which was the OEM tyre for the 996RS. Absolutely awesome on road and track. thumbup

That's the treads I was thinking of - not P Zeros.
My car wears Dunlop SSR's which are a track tyre but have been ok so far in the wet. Not had any real breakaway issues, though i've not been provoking it.

You bought a GT3 without knowing if it had TC or not? :S

It;s probably worth having a dig about on the net and finding out some more about the thoroughbred you know own. You'll be even more pleased to have it then!

As for the rattles- I hope you soon learn to drown them out with the howl of the engine, i find little things like that bother me less when i'm having the time of my life blasting round a track

Where did you buy your GT3 from? whats the spec? Reason why I ask is there are a number of us on PH and the 911 forum who have been looking for GT3's to buy. Our reasearch has found that there are a number of iffy cars on thye market i.e ex write offs etc
