anybody got one of these it does everything i need as half the 400d 's features i'd never use

Had the S9500 for a month and sent it back. Crap in anything other than bright sunlight and a few other issues. The S9600 is the same camera with a few of the known problems supposedly ironed out. Based on my experience of the 9500 I wouldn't recommend it.
Register yourself on the forums on the Fuji website and read what other people think of it.
Not knocking Fuji as I still have an S5000 as backup to my DSLR but I would certainly do a lot of homework before you part with that amount of cash.
Get yourself to your nearest camera shop and play about with some different models (other than Fuji) and have a chat to the people there. Tell them what you need it for, what your budget is and I'm sure they'll come up with something to suit.
P.S. it's not an SLR!
