Went to an OPC a few weeks ago to have my PSE fitted and the mechanic said I have got a new engine. This confused me as the OPC in Reading failed to mention that. Anyway I just queried it with Reading OPC and they advised me yes and have forwarded me the Porsche Database notes that shows it had a new engine at 42103 miles. My car has 65,000 on clock now so the engine has only done 23,000 miles. I have the copies now so I can tell any prospective buyers when I come to sell and show them the receipts etc.

Makes you wonder why they didn't tell me that at first. Is it a good thing to have a new engine when selling or a bad thing ?

It's a 996 (2000) c2

Sure someone did a post about this very thing a few days ago. It wouldn't bother me as long as it was done by someone reputable, which yours has. So no worries mate.

Yes they do.

I nearly bought a GT3 off an OPC but they refused to show me the system diagnostic report (i wanted to see rev range 2 instances etc).

OPC "we don't show customers the diagnostic report"
Me "why not"
OPC "its policy"
Me "where's it say that then?"
OPC "we just know, its policy"
Me "would you use the diagnostic report if i ever came to a warranty claim"
OPC "yes"
Me "would you buy a house without a survey"
OPC "no"
Me "thought not. i'm not buying your car unless i see the report. call me if you change your mind"

A day later, they showed it to me and i didn't buy the car.

Car had had 2 rear main seal leaks (very rare in the GT3) and had more rev range 2 (higher naughty range where the rev counter has bounced into red on downchanges, rev limiter on the way up means you can't do rev range 2 on upchanges) than one could list on 10 pages of A4 paper.....

Car had also done around 2,500 miles in the six months since the opc had bought it off the last owner, who said he treated it like a puppy.......

I can't think its prudent to buy a modern Porsche, where one can get access to the way its been driven by reference to some objective factual info (as well as all the usual things we all look for), without asking to see a diagnostic report.

In the case of the GT3 i turned away from, i don't know if it was the opc trying to hide somet. (having seen the report already) or they simply didnt want to show it cos it was an unusual request which they didnt know the answer to.

cheers

I got a new gearbox once from an OPC,it was pretty obvious as they never put any underseal on it.

Another thing they hide is the fitting of a tracker, amazingly you can never find a car in an opc that has a tracker fitted to it. However as luck would have it they can fit you one at the dealership.

Ajit - I thought Range 1 overrevs were the ones which indicated a mechanical overrev and Range 2 was hitting the rev limiter (of which there could be many)? Can anyone confirm for definite?

Isn't the point of a Rev limiter to remove the chance of any damage.. so the fact you've hit a rev limiter on the way up would have no negative impact really... (repeatedly hitting it from cold may well be something to worry over)

I understand and agree about the Mechanical over rev being a different story.

Greig, don't remember whats the okay rev range and vice versa, but the car i went to see had too many hits in both rev ranges to mention. And more in the wrong one.

Jamie - you're right on upchanges. Its the downchanges that do the damage.

cheers

Ajit.

lol re the tracker - that's so true.

In fact I looked at a GT3 they were happy to fit one to.

When I did my homework it already had 2!!
