Personally as someone who would love a turbo in the future and someone who's had experience of modded cars in the past is that you'll get less for it as its had the engine upgrade that if it was standard. People will be put off by the fact that it will have been abused - I'm sure it hasn't, but they will think that the extra power will have put extra strain on all the other components (gearbox, transmission, driveshafts, brakes etc), let alone been driven more 'energetically' than a normal car. After all, if the previous owner (before you) had driven it normally, why would they want to increase the power beyond what is already a high figure.

You say it can be reset back to normal ... so, wouldn't it be better to do that before selling it ?

I'd say low 40's as it is, high 40's if it were normal.

Do you think I would get more by having the power turned back to normal, having a full Porsche check done to give buyers peace of mind and selling it through top marques?

I understand the point about modifications to cars and I do believe it's very difficult to re-claim the money when you come to sell. Perhaps an exception is factory fitted modifications when the car was built...such as the X packs. However I personally wouldn't be too put off by the power hike as I've read several times that the standard turbo engine is capable in un-modified form of anything upto around 600BHP.

I would have thought 42 to 43K and don't worry about the modification being put back to normal...I wouldn't bother putting it back to standard. If you're confident it's a good car then stick with it as it is. I'd be looking more at the service history and evidence of care for the car. The power hike wouldn't bother me too much. It's also true to say that there is another market in which the power hike would appeal to people.

I think you may have to get it MOT'd though....Feb 07 is a bit soon. Also not sure about the polished weekly bit...I'd get the impression that maybe it's been over treated in terms of polish or that you're trying to hard in your advert.

I agree. I am looking for a 996 Turbo, but there is no way I am going to buy anything other than a standard car or X50 car with a Porsche warranty.

There is a very limited market for modded cars, IMHO.

You'd get more for it reverting it to normal and putting the OPC warranty on it, I reckon - wider market.

And if you do that, I'd reckon low->mid 40s would be a fair price.

Nothways have a 01 996 Turbo with similar miles for £43995.

Hopefully I'll be looking around the mid 40s mark in the new year (waiting to see what bonus is like) so I've been keeping a close eye on 996 Turbo prices recently!

Think you'll find the Northways one is a 2000 on a W-plate (so somewhere between March and August 2000)

I'd be desperate if I were selling to an OPC....let's face it then won't give you anywhere near what you want.

So after purchase lets say the engine went bang, the OPC then discover it was modified, you didn't tell them this (they ask on the paperwork you have to fill out)who do you think will be saddled with either the bill or a returned car?

are you suggesting the OPC would pursue a private punter, having taken a car off them, if it went bang? i think that is unlikely to be a succesful pursuit

When you sell them a car you have to verify in writing the mileage & history, of course they could come after you if you declared in writing that the car had not been modified & they subsequently found out it had been to the detriment of the internals, they could easily take legal action successfully!

Of course whether they actually would is another matter, but I am just pointing out that unless you sell a car "as seen" with no warrant to condition, use, damage or mileage then they would have legal come back should you have lied about aspects of the sale!

Not sure an OPC would buy it outright, little old for them maybe?

If your not in a rush £42995, if you want to cause a stampede £39995.

Good Luck

You tell them that - obviously - it was modded before you bought it, and you had no knowledge of the modification, therefore were being honest on the form.

exactly. which of the three previous owners modded the car? who can tell? If the OPC buys their own brand back and slaps a warranty on it (which presumably means its been inspected to their exacting standards) they would look purdy damn silly standing up in court and saying they hadnt noted it was modded, and then blaming the last punter whom they cant prove to be the culprit is the legal equivalent of emptying a lake with a sieve, i'm sure. IMH(nonlegal)O of course

like I said £40k - its an old model and unfortunately it doesnt matter how nice it is that will always be a HUGE factor when selling or buying!

If you get more than £40k - you have had a result and prices will only dip - so get a move on and sell it soon.

Good Luck

If I were in your position I would call round a few Indies to see what they would offer. An OPC would not touch it due to Age, Milleage and Mods. Once you understand what the trade and retail prices are, call a few private ads to see if the cars have sold and if so what for. I would suspect your car is worth between £32 - £36k in the trade.
