browsing...again rolleyes

saw this www.pistonheads.com/sales/77995.htm

was wondering
a) how much does a pukka LHD to RHD conversion cost (if it exists)?
b) why would you do it? by which I mean, was it a cost effective exercise, as opposed to just selling your LHD car and buying a RHD one?
c) what significance come resell time? this one appears quite cheap - around the same ballpark as original LHD models. so does the conversion make it more or less desirable?

996's are a piece of cake as the shells are the same. But be wary of anything prior to 996 as to do the conversion properly would cost I would guess not far short of £10K. To do a proper job you need to change the front bulkhead and that is major surgery. Be warned and get it inspected as I very much doubt that someone has spent that much money doing the job correctly, cheers graeme

hmmm, thought as much. I wonder if there was ever a time when the cost of conversion was significantly less than the cost of simply changing to an equivalent RHD car?

Could easily have been the case. The cars were £50 to £60K when new. A week Deutsche Mark and a strong Pound would hav emade it tempting to do.

I recall wandering round a Porsche main dealer in Germany when the 993 was still a current model. A couple of used LHD 993s were working out at about £25 to 30K.

i would have thought you can get a genuine RHD 993 with a few miles under its belt for around 20-22k can't you?
Why would you spend a vast amount of money on converting LHD to RHD on an air cooled car in the first place? confused

The conversion may have been done some years ago when the car was relatively new 9see my previous post). The financials would have made more sense then.
