I drove a new 997 Turbo last Friday

I drove the new 997 Turbo last Friday at Millbrook
We did 5 high speed laps round the bowl ,4,
I mile start and Hard braking tests- one with the Speed Button on for exrta BHP
and another without
then a few laps of the alpine speed section with all manner of hills,Cambers
and surfaces
In a few words... Formidable,Quick,Civilised
I drove up to the test in the GT3 RS so I had a good comparison on the way there and back
Its a very quick car which does everything the RS does just a lot more clinically-
I felt cocooned in the car !
After getting back in the RS I was trying to work out .. shall I put in 30-35K and buy
one ?
But driving back through some excellent roads in deeepest Herts listening to the engine of the RS at full chat, holding the steering wheel with both Hands and actually driving the car it felt more rewarding + I felt I was at one with the car not slipping around a seat which did not hold me in .. I for one will stick to the RS
Its a better car than a 996 Turbo ( I know I had one ! )well done Porsche for making a good car

Of course its a better car than a 996 tt..thats what Porsche do,they develop,..its a 997tt..having said that the 997tt is so un-porsche like it nearly handles properly without chronic understeer followed by chronic oversteer..its nearly as well mannered as an evo.But for the purists it just has to be so sorted thats its boring? It must make a 996 gt3 rs feel like Ben -Hurs chariot? We did 5 high speed laps round the bowl ,4,

I was up there last Friday too, had a drive around in a C4S. Followed a Blue Turbo around the alpine circuit, looked awesome.
I took this same turbo back to its dealer that day, except the car never got back until the next morning. It was far too tempting to keep it for the night. What an awesome machine!! I'd love to have one, and would prefer one to a 996 RS on the British roads any day.
However I did meet a MK2 GT3 on the 414 from Hatfield to Hertford and could not believe how fast that car was. The turbo had no pace on the GT3, in fact at times it seemed I was holding him up. Driver of Mk2 must be mad!! If you're on this forum, hello, that was a bit of fun these dull british roads!
Later that evening it rained, and the turbo came into its own. Nothing would have touched it then. OK so it requires no great skill, but being able to put full power down in the wet in 1st and 2nd was astonishing, the car felt like it was leaving ripples in the wet tarmac.
I wouldn't normally be one to harp on about the car stereo, but this turbo had a fantastic bose sound system. I was thinking about those noisy, bone jarring trips accross Belgium in the RS, and how much more comfortable the journey would be in this turbo. For road use, the 997 Turbo (manual) would be my number 1 choice!!
