996 on an 'S' plate
Discussion
Check whether it's got the sports pack - which was lowered and firmer suspension, and traction control. It rides a bit stiff for some tastes if you're primarily using it around town. If it's got a traction control button, it'll have the suspension too.
The 3.6 (2001 onwards) had 20 more bhp, but was a bit heavier (they made it structurally stiffer) so not a lot of performance advantage.
They are fantastic value for money at present, but shop around and find a good one.
There are lots of scare stories about engine fragility but in fact major failure are rare. Do check for oil leaks though.

Do you mean PSM when you say traction control? Mine has this but I don't think it has sports supension though !!
It'll be traction control on earlier models.
Sounds very similar to mine, how much is it up for?
Good luck.
Wouldn't have to pay much more for mine if you're interested. Would work out cheaper bearing in mind the items you've mentioned.
Tyres and clutch have only done a couple of thousand, air con has been serviced and both compressors replaced.
Plus it's got the OPC warranty for peace of mind.

OK I know he is a mate but it is, without anydoubt whatsoever the best spec'd 996 you will ever come across.
I have a stock C2 and I get serious spoiler envy whenever I follow him. And, more importantly, he is a regular PHer and anyone will be able to verify the histroy/condition.
Whilst it is a little more than the 25k you mentioned, if there is a better entry into 996 ownership i have never seen it
Fez .. Have you factored in an OPC warranty? That's going to add another grand , plus anything that needs to be fixed. They won't for example warrant your A/C til it's fixed, it's possible that both condensors are knackered , it'll cost another £1k approx to replace them and re-gas.
Editted to add , if it doesn't have a sports exhaust , you'll likely end up stumping up for it in the end...
.. Just ordered in the bits for mine at the next sevice ..
.. Wish I'd known about this before I bought.

The interior is a green, but you really do have to see it to appreciate it. I, and a lot of others off PH think it looks lovely. It's not so dark as black, obviously, and goes really well with the silver.
I was trying to avoid silver when buying too. But this was was just too good to pass up, and I spent 4 months looking at them. Does look stunning, on the xmas meet it was the one the hotel staff were eyeing up.
I'm confident you won't find a better spec'd or sounding car for the money. It is a really regretful sale, took me long enough to find it.
Am in Birmingham / Sutton Coldfield in it this week if it helps. Please drop me a mail if you're interested.

That's true!! .. I was at the xmas meet , the staff were asked by someone which of 5 porkers they'd pick (including a 996TT , a facelift and an anniversary) and they all picked torches car ..
.. My 996 is a year younger than Torches , and has lower mileage , but I'd swop with him in a heartbeat.
The combo of the aerokit , the sports exhaust , sexy calipers , GT3 wheels , and lowered suspension makes this one of a kind.. You will NOT find it's like ...

Are you sure bout that ? .. I've got TC but I'm pretty certain I don't have the sports suspension ..
Umm, maybe I'm wrong, certainly the sports pack included the lowered suspension and tc - but it would make sense for tc to have been offered as an option by its' self.

You've actually got it in one Fez ... I know Torch is a good guy , he'll be honest with you about the car , and the car's a REALLY good un , and yes , I for one will be majorly pissed off when he sells it ... I do hope it'll go to a bloody good home , and that he'll rejoin the frat fairly soon after again.

Mike0996 - The Traction Control was an extra on the C2. It was not PSM on the early cars. Also if, like I did, you opted for the Sports Chassis you also got a Limited Slip Diff as well.
The very first 996's had some early quality problems and the R & S plate cars in the UK are certainly of that era.
