I'm aware that doing this sort of pic is treading a very fine line between cute and tacky, but hey, this is my little daughter so I don't care!

I wanted an over-exposed look to it, to kinda look like studio lighting. Why? erm, well, just cos I've never tried it before tbh, and the natural light at home that day was pretty uninspiring.

Shutter speed 1/200
ISO 640
50mm
f1.8
plus 2 exposure comp
flash off camera @ plus 2 (i think)

I know the over-exposed look isn't to everyone's taste, but as I say it was as much a "Can i get that look?" exercise as anything else. Must confess the background (a light green wall in my lounge) came out quite grey so I've changed that in photoshop. I'm a fan of natural lighting for people shots so this is new territory for me.

comments and criticism welcome...

laugh Matt I assumed you meant the shot isn't working - didn't realise you couldn't actually see the image! LOL. I've shown a few people this shot and there is a pattern to the comments I've got back...I'm curious to know if that pattern applies on PH too.

BTW people - don't hold back on comments/criticism. I've had good and bad about this shot and I'm in two minds myself.

im not sure, i dont feel im in any sort of position to give an opinion but i feel that something is missing. The expression on the face just doesnt seem to work for me but i can't put my finger on it. Im sure that if i took this picture myself however i would be extremely pleased but when asked for critique i always tend to give negative. I uppose im just an extreme pessimist.

Hi!
I can't quite put my finger on it, but (and I guess this is why you're asking for honest opinions) I just don't think it works. The over exposed look I think loses the colour of the baby's face and that in turn makes his rosey cheeks and piercing eyes look very photoshopped. The background is a nice tone though and would work well with a more colourful foreground.

I stress this is from a very amateur point of view. Hope you take the comments within the spirit with which they were given thumbup

Thanks for the feedback guys. I agree tbh, it looks awkward to me. What annoys me is that family and friends say they love it, and I'm sure most are just saying that! That annoys me intensely hence I thought some honest thoughts on here were just what I needed. I enjoyed trying to get it right, even though I didn't get it right!
