What does it take to re-establish warranty for a 996?
Discussion
If you buy a private 996 that isn't under warranty (not sure how that works or how this can happen), what does it take to reinitiate it at a Porsche Center?
I found a lovely facelifted 996, without warranty, and wouldn't buy it I guess without a warranty. I know it differs between countries, but need to understand the concept.

You need to take it to an OPC and get the 111 point check done (around £150). If it passes that they'll warranty it (around £900 per year). If it fails you need to get the problems fixed before they'll warranty it.
It's usually best to arrange this with the independent dealer so that they pick up the cost of any work that needs doing. If buying privately you can try to knock the cost of repairs off the price.

I think Porsche UK are pretty flexible and convenient. In Germany/Austria, once a car's warranty isn't extended, it can never recuperate it! Something to think about!

Well, the warranty is valid European wide. You could take the car to the UK get the warranty there. However, I think you should check in more detail since can't believe that Germany (and maybe even Austria) won't provide the same service since they are both in the EU. Mybe a call to Porsche head office in Austria to check?

a twist, if i buy a car with warranty but privatly, can i transfer the warranty to say wilmslow my local dealer
The warranty can be transferred to the new owner using the form in the warranty booklet. Some dealers will get the seller to sign this for you if they have warranty left and send it back to Porsche for you to get it transfered, I don't think this is technically allowed though!
You can get warranty work done at any Porsche Centre if the car's covered.
I've saved more money than I've spent with Porsche warranties, they're an essential part of owning one IMO.

Same in Spain - pain the arse as I missed the renewal by a couple of weeks.

I got that answer from Porsche-Vienna themselves. Regarding Germany, I got that information by posting a question on a forum of experts there and got 3 agreeing answers. Looks like interrupted warranty renewal in Germany-Austria is a no-no. At least that's what it looks like today from my research.
I could just drive the damn car to the UK and do it there. Not a practical solution. I guess I see why this 996 facelift is so cheap.

My dealer told me that a week missed is not a problem. I am sure two aren't neither.
