Driving along today, when suddenly for a couple of seconds my oil pressure display failed the needle dropped to zero (just like it had been disconnected) and a warning came up on the dash, then it came back on again ????? Is this a common problem? Also why is when you put a small amount of fuel in, i.e £15 it doesnt register on the display?
Cheers and Merry Christmas to all

Either there is a problem with the oil pressure sender unit...or the wiring plugs are loose onto the sender unit and just breaking contact every now and then.....this is in my experience rather than a mechanical problem.
Fuel problem is that you need to put around 25 litres of fuel in for the level sender to work as it is a saddle tank design because you ave a front diff on the car and the tank is moulded around this diff so it sits either side over the diff and requires this amount of fuel to register on the gauge.
Hope this helps.

I have the same problem with the oil pressure gauge on my 2002 996 C2.
Happens sporadically fails then recovers rightaway, it may happen a couple of times in a short journey then not for over 1000 miles.
Any answers to the previous post, I will be watching with interest.

I had exactly the same problem on my 2003 996 - computer warning was Oil Sensor Failure or something like that, not nice when it first happens to see the pressure fall whilst in the fast lane.
The pressure sensor was knackered and replaced under extended warranty.
Mine started happening around 50 miles after it had a major service, I reckon they knackered it whilst servicing the car.
Cheers
