Hey everyone.

My friend is selling his 911, I Cant remember the exact year, but its similar looking to this one

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/

Now, what will be like to run every day? The car has been rebuilt once before, but has a couple of bubbles of rust at the front of the bonnet. Apart from that it looks great, everything is tidy, engine is clean from dirt and runs really nicely.

Its right hand drive, in dark grey.

Can the older Porsches be used daily without failing miserably? I don't mind doing work on cars, but don't want to be replacing engines fortnightly or anything! I'd be selling a 1990 Golf Rallye to buy it, so I'm not really losing out on a new car or anything.

Can anyone offer me any advice?

Sorry if this post is a bit vague!

They're really great cars. At least that's what I think.

If you don't mind working on them, then you're perfectly qualified to decide if what you're looking at is a prospect or not. Get some books about the history and the problems. Buy with a considered eye. Its always going to be a Porsche in the pocket, and a car in practice. That's good and bad!

I have a couple of friends who use mid 80s 911s as daily drivers but 80k miles seems low for a 19 year old car try and check it out

Mine`s eighteen years old and has just over 80K on the clock so it`s not overly unusual

A bit O/T but thats a nice Rallye.

How come it only cost £1500 in July? Was it a wreck when you bought it?

i've just had a new hood put on mine, also not sure whether i'm gonna put some 18" speedlines on to fill the arches (okay don't give me any grief) bit chavvy maybe, what do you think stick with the fuchs?

yikes The Fuchs wheels on the '80s cars are the best looking wheels ever made. Ever. By anyone. In the world. Even ever so slightly better looking that BMW BBS wheels, better looking even that the five-spoke ferrari wheels on the 328 and a teeny bit better looking (in some lights) than ferrari Borrani wire wheels.

It would be like replacing Capucine by Drew Barrymore teacher

Point taken, so it would be suicide to put different shoes on to put it bluntly.
I need a good refurbisher in Sheffield then, rotate the fronts are tarnished slightly, but the rears are fine. What do you think about lowering it slightly, about 30mm just a case of adjusting torsion bars isn't it?, think they look meaner when lowered, albeit the 930 shape is the most agressive looking mother in town IMHO bow

no way should you change the fuchs.

if you do -I'll have 'em!

Been playing with (read cleaning!) the 930 today and I have to say it's the best car ever made!

Nooooooooo ED do not fit the speedline's. The 16" fuchs along with the original 930 shape is the most pure that you can buy. IMHO the 73 2.7RS and the original 930 Turbo are two of the most stuuning looking Porsche's that were every made. My 965 3.6 is a beautiful car but again IMHO looks ungainly from some angles. The staining on the Fuchs is usually due to acid wheel cleaner attacking the anodising. Depending on how bad it can be polished out with a lot of elbow grease (tell me about it 89 3.2 carrera) or have them re anodised and repainted. all the best Graeme

Thanks Graeme/Ragtop, i'll keep the fuchs, been overuled!!
Gotta say agree with your choice of 930/2.7 RS, but the 965 is up there. I had a 92 3.3 which was truely concourse, 46k under her belt. Sold it 7 months ago to aguy from Sweden, it was tweaked slightly and was bloody rapid yes
Like the 930 and 965 simple as that beautiful machines if a bit of a handful but hey thats why's we like em!. Cheers Guys
