London Thunder - The donations and funds thread
Discussion
Can a mod stick this please?
Hi Everyone,
Some of you have been asking what is happening with the funds and donations raised by London Thunder.
Well, to answer your questions - A committee has been formed from the organisers in order to decide how best to deal with the money raised. Accounts are still being reconciled so that a final figure may be obtained, but at this time, it is a very significant amount.
Ideas are being thrashed out between the committee members about how best this money would be spent and we are consulting with representatives from the TVR workforce. We have a few ideas on which finer points must be considered and final details put in place, but I can assure you all that we will look to find the best way to use your money and show our appreciation for the guys and girls that gave us all our magnificent machines.
Your patience is appreciated during this time and we will have something concrete for you shortly.
Thankyou again
Ben

Just a thought - talk to the TGWU. I guess they'll have a hardship fund for TVR workers who have been made redundant, and criteria for allocation of the moneys. Not much can happen until the final redundancy terms have been agreed - but it would seem to be an appropriate allocation of whatever funds there are

No-one at TVR has actually been made redundant
From what I read in the gazette tonight it sounds as though there are lots of meetings & consultations taking place at the minute. Sounded quite hopeful

Just to say re the fund - not everyone at TVR are in a union so bear this in mind
from that quote we can take it that your not?? i think u will find the union do not operate like tvr management....IE the said donations will be for ALL workers..the TGWU are only a contact point for the tvr enthuisiast,,as there is no other organised contact point at tvr for the donations commitee to work with.............

A very valid point has been raised here. Please, those with this matter in hand.....check that ALL the money raised doesn't go into the coffers of the Union for ALL workers/members of the TGWU. The money should go to TVR people not anyone else. Unions have a different slant on where money goes to ordinary folk. Just be sure, that's all.

Just to clarify the situation. All monies collected to date have been deposited in a High St bank account. This has nothing to do with any company or union. When all the plans are finalised, they will be posted here. Please be assured that ALL the Money will be used to benefit ALL the workers. The unions are not involved in any decision making with regard to this matter.

The union has no slant whatsoever on where the money should go, infact, they have taken several steps backwards from this, and are not involved at all in any decisions regarding money, this will be decided by the committee which has been chosen to do just that.
Okay. Time to put a few things straight.
1. Who are we, who the hell gave us the power and why should we decide what is best?
2. Who are we consulting on matters of the funds?
3. What are we doing with the money - Who will benefit?
4. When will we find out what decisions have been made?
*************
1. The Committee was formed after London Thunder. After some discussion it was decided that the tresurer, who has centralised the funds for counting did not want all the responsiblity of distributing it all as well. Thus, all those who who had acted as joint organisers for London Thunder were consulted as to whether they'd like to form a committee to discuss and decide upon the best courses of action. This was taken up, as though we want the opinions of the those who very generously donated (covered further in point 2), we could not have 500 people all with differing views. This would have caused mayhem and nothing would have been decided upon. A process of voting was also carried out within the committee and I was elected as chairman. This does not mean that I carry power of veto or any more weight, the committee is democratic and everyones views are as important as each others. I'm just here to make posts such as this and to try and co-ordinate the work being done behind the scenes by the members.
2. The committee is taking both it's own views, those of the union, those of other workers - through our people with ties to the factory and also we are happy to take on board suggestions posted by TVR owners who have forwarded them, both by direct mail and by posting on here.
There have already been several hundred emails between us to thrash out ideas and solutions and we all had a long conference telephone call last week to talk things through and come up with unified ideas.
3. The workers will be the benefactors. We will not be "lining the coffers of the union" or anything of the sort. We will do our best to ensure that all of the workforce benefits as much as possible.
4. I cannot put a definite timeframe on this as ideas are still being fleshed out and information gathered so that viability assessments can be made in order to bring together the most appropriate solution.
*************
I hope this answers some of your questions, however I'm more than happy to reply to any further queries either here or by direct email.
Thanks all,
Ben

Hi Ben
Mrs derekg500 here. I'm sure that the majority of us have every confidence in you and the committee in ensuring that the money goes to the right people in the right way. It must be a nightmare trying to please all people all of the time! I have only one point to raise and it is merely a comment nothing more. That is, Christmas is a particularly expensive time of the year even if you have a wage coming in and keep it basic. My concern would be that IF you are planning to do anything, ie cash or vouchers, before Christmas time is running out. I would like like to wish everyone, Committee members, PHer's, TVR lovers and last but certainly not least the TVR workers a Merry Christmas and fingers crossed for a brighter, happier New Year! Kind Regards, Gail x
