Idiot question - editing .avi files
Discussion
Need your help fellow PH'ers.
On holiday Mrs CVP has shot some short video footage using our little Canon IXUS in video mode. She has shot it vertically and of course now when I'm playing it back it is orientated 90 degrees out of whack.
I have approx 2 to 3 clips of 11MB or so each and Ideally I'd like to get them rotated so they look right on screen but have never edited this kind of file before.
Does anyone have any software recommendations, pref cheapy as I don't want to do sophisticated stuff just get them the right orientation to remind me of that time.
Before you ask, it's not that kind of footage...
it's actually the mountain gorillas in Rwanda
Cheers

Been there and done that.
Good news is that Windows Movie Maker can do this, import movie then go into Video Effects and drop the required rotation and the movie onto the timeline. Only thing is that it can be a bit fussy about what files it accepts, pretty sure it didn't use to like the output files from my Canon G1 so if you have the same you might need to find another prog that converts the format first.
For this part I have used MP4Cam2Avi (catchy name) available from here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4ca
So you need to convert you avi (probably MP4) to a full uncompressed Avi first (this intermediate file will be big because no compression) then import that file into WMM.
Hope that makes sense, probably commercial software out there that will do it all for you in one hit, but this is Free and if you only have a few to do it is no great harship.
