UNF (Unified fine) and UNC (Unified Coarse). As a rule of thumb, where fixings screw into threads in Aluminium castings UNC is used.
Some of the later Mini's used a mix of UNF/UNC and some metric.
Stainless fixngs generally are preferred (if cost isn't an issue) but be careful with bolts tensile strength requirements e.g suspension components & seatbelt mounts.
