Hi there just joined ,
i am just selling my v8 ford powered 34 ford roadster street rod {been into street rods and hotrods for over 20 years now bored } and fancy a tvr ,i've reseached S series including v8s but also am now considering a chimaera as they seem to be available for under £7000 ,i dont mind doing work on cars but dont want to get into any body off chassis rebuilds anymore .so which has the better build quality for example chassis protection ,does the chimaera go,ride, handle much better ,they both seem fairly simple cars ,advantages ,disadvantages . sorry for so many questions

cheers jez

OK so I was waiting for someone else to answer this. You've posted this in the Chimaera forum so obviously everyone is going to think Chimaera's are the better choice.

You need to understand that poor chassis condition is a result of the level of protection it has received and the environments it has been exposed to. It has very little to do with age or mileage. I have seen some complete bucket jobs on 5yr old cars and perfect rust free chassis's on 20yr old TVR's.

The only way to know if a chassis is OK is to get under the car and check it out for yourself. The weak points are where chassis tubes join the outriggers in the wheel arches, the tops of the outriggers and areas chassis rails near the exhaust where rust protection tends to melt leaving any exposed metal vulnerable to attack. Rusty body mounting plates are less important; they are very easy to replace in situ. Their condition may indicate the level of care that the rest of the chassis has received but there's no substitute to getting down and dirty and checking the chassis properly.

Hi Jez and welcome to PH.

A fantastic sauce of information at your disposal on PH is the Search facility.
Just click search top of page towards the right, then clik Forums, enter words to search, then scroll down to the section to search in, then add a time scale and hit search.

All being well you will have masses of information to answer most if not all of your questions.

Hope this is of use to you Jez thumbup
Cheers

Ps Would you not prefer a Griff rather than a Chimp rofl

Won't get a Griff with a budget of £7000. Will have to hunt around to find a Chim for that sort of money unless you're happy with a Cat 'C' or 'D'.

Which puts you into older model territory. Nice
