Porsche Warranty's 996
Discussion
Can anyone whos got a porsche, just go out and buy an opc warranty? or does it need an inspection first? Reason why I ask on my 02 plate Carrera 4S, I discovered a bit of 'mayonaisse' substance in the oil filler neck and im thinking 'head gasket' has gone! or is this normal?

yes, you need the 111 point check before porsche will let you purchase the extended warranty.
Of course they're not just going to let you buy one - if that was the case, you wouldn't buy one till something went wrong.
The good news is, if it is just a small amount of mayo - its perfectly fine - something to do with you being a pussy and taking your 996 to the shops rather than thrashing it like a real man should... and then something with water in the filler cap.. i dont really know..
anyway, unless theres a lot - nothing to worry about.
But still, perhaps this would be a good time to consider the inspection and warranty - once its up and running you can renew it without a check..

All engines sweat and the slight water traces need somewhere to go.
The strange design of the oil filler cap in the 996 means the condensation can sit in the neck for sometime, and thus take on a milky substance which seems to make us all shit ourselves when we see it for the first time - I certainly did me.
As figds so eloquently said - give the bitch a good thrashing and the stuff will disappear as if by magic

Wot the Moist Fragranced Wipe sed.
It's condensation from the oil which rises into the filler neck, which in this cold weather is cold enouigh to condense the vapour and form a tiny bit of mayo type goo (Carreraspunk)
If there's no oil in the coolant expansion tank (foamy gunk on the surface) then it's unlikely to be a problem.
If you want the warranty (you DO want the warranty - see my profile) then you need to get the 111 point check at OPC, then it's £895 per year up to ten years and 125,000 miles.

Thanks guys, it doesnt get 'shop runs' tbh, which is why the bit of mayo concerns me but must just be the cold weather. How much is the 111 point check? My car does have warranty but its not OPC, so probably 'mickey mouse' type although I bought my car from a merc main dealer, but think I will get OPC warranty and keep renewing as no doubt will be more comprehensive. It has just been serviced 3 weeks ago by OPC so dont think the 111 pt check should be a problem.
By the way ive done 1000 mile since ive had it and used about 1/2 litre of oil is this normal?
Thanks a lot

Think the inspection is about 250 sheets.
They do insist on the car being 100% before issuing the warranty - be aware that they might find quite a list - having just had it services doesn't really mean much tbh.
I always get slated on here for saying it, but I've never had a problem claiming, and I've had over £7k of work done in two years. Do let us know how you get on....
Oil use sounds high to me - I use a litre every 12,000 miles.

.. Oil usage sounds a tad high , but probably not worryingly so ... You also may be able to get the warranty with certain items excluded if you didn't want to have the expense of fixing them .. For example a faulty aircon system. I've just stopped crackin up at Carreraspunk comment ..
May I suggest , varying on that theme that it may be referred to as CarreraKum from now on!!
Do it. Do it. Do it!
No matter what anyone says, it IS possible to sleep just a little bit sounder at night, when you have a warranty.
I'm not running mine on a shoestring, nor am I soooo loaded that I don't care what it costs to run, but I don't think I'd venture into 911 ownership without one of these warranties. I know that we give Porsche a bit of a hard time for their warranty 'wriggling' under pressure, but on the whole - it's well worth it - even if they have just increased the premium. (maybe if we all said it was cr*p and advised people against it, then they'd check this site and reduce the price as an incentive???? No, didn't think so...!)
Just for the record, I've had my C2 since the end of June and it's been in twice to the OPC for the RMS (had to mention it...) and also the seal at the other end! (that's the best part of 1000 GBP and it cost me nowt.
) I was fortunate enough to buy a car privately with 10 months OPC warranty and when it runs out in May, I'm taking it out again. Just do it. They may 'help' you with the 111 point check as it had this a few weeks ago....? Pay the money and grit your teeth and sleep just a little sounder at night.

Porsche Centre Reading refused to issue a warranty on my car two weeks ago, until the low tone horn was fixed

How long have you owned it?
Presumably merc dealer wouldnt sell it without a warranty as you have come back for a minimum of 90 days - ego any problem either fire it back at them to check or pay a OPC for an inspection only and then ask them to resolve any errors that show up if its still within this period.

................ My horn was fixed under warranty.
Is that because the horn is covered by the warranty, but not all of the a/c is?

come to think of it - the letter K has many germanic connotations - arrogance perhaps?
