Clutching at straws??
Discussion
P, considering the abuse you have given the thing so far (and I am not being harsh here) I think the standard type centre plate has held up fairly well to date. Given that your tape shows 10mm I think you could more than likely expect a few more miles from the thing yet. If you are determined to change then the next toughest option would be a cerametallic paddle with a sprung centre. Some may say a solid centre will be better but for our type of cars it would be to unforgiving and make for a very on/off feel and an unpleasant drive. It may also be worth considering a stronger sprung cover to give a higher clamping force but this also will make the pedal heavier still. You could always change the master cylinder as well but where does it end?
Your man suggested a spung centre. He pointed out where the twisting of the doughnut had forced the the fingers of the clutch plate into contact with each other with some force. See last pic. What are the downsides with a cerametalic sprung plate? Is there such a beastie that will fit without changing the cover?

Ian, one wonders if the flywheel was right in the first place as you have had no problems since (I am assuming that you continue to use the car as you were when the problem occurred?) Out of interest, what type of clutch combo are you using now?
P, I think you will be able to use your standard cover with an uprated centre plate but get some professional advice first. If it were me I would go for a complete uprated package. If you have the room it may be worth considering a twin or even a triple plate clutch. I would look at AP, Aldon, Tilton and Quarter Master as possibilities. It will more than likely cost £3/400 min. but if you can find the right upgrade, you should have no more problems in that area.

I replaced my clutch after it began to slip and it was in much worse state than yours with almost no material left on one side... mine had also twisted on the rubber and hit the stops so thats not an issue IMO just a result of using it on strip.
To change to a multi plate will cost loads as a new flywheel ringgear etc will be required as well as the clutch which for a tripple plate like what Wayne and I have will cost £750. Its worth the cost though IMO for a significantly quicker and lighter pedal.
I'd try refacing the flywheel.

It's the "standard" porsche clutch like "P", it only came to-light after fitting the Quaife diff, I agree it was probably like that from the start, the face of the flywheel was not flat. As well as the regrinding I fitted a NACA duct into the side intake and piped it into the bellhousing. I have a 7 1/4" flywheel to fit a twin plate clutch, but as Andy says, there's a lot more to mod! ( ring gear/starter Etc

Speak to Sachs that do uprated clutches. 17,000 miles and on the second clutch (replaced the first with plenty more to go as the gearbox was out). Current clutch is fine and has done close to 50 vmax standing starts
Are you talking about just a centre plate upgrade or a whole cover etc?
So far I think I will grind the flywheel side and replace the centre plate.
