Rubber paint to help prevent spidering
Discussion
I am in the process of getting the GTW painted at the moment and was thinking about inner wheel arch reinforcements and then I remembered seeing somewhere on here about some rubberised type of paint that is available and is used to paint inside wheel arches to help reduce the risk of stones and road debris from damaging the fiberglass. Can any of you help?
It was called 'Rubberoid' but it's not available any more.
Car Builder Solutions do a sealer but I challenged them at a show and it is not the same and does not form the rubber skin.
The closest I came was a product used to create rubber membranes on the outside of retaining walls like cellar walls and also used on flat roofs where you want to put down a working surface like paving stones over the top of it. Proved to be very expensive so I didn't use it.

As Steve said - it's discontinued. Was also called Rubbercoat IIRC.
There are similar products out there though:

I made the mistake of using rubbercoat years ago on an old kit car, the damn stuff never really worked as advertised. It was supposed to expand after application to make a thin protective rubber layer, mine did not and added very little protection. On my GTR I made thin fibreglass inter wings that sit 10mm from the surface, these are actually quite small as they just protect the top of the wheel arches.

I did consider something along these lines as suggested by my man SSS, but because I have louvres in the front and back wings to help vent pressure build in the wheel arches felt it may hinder or even negate their existence and although I do like the visual appearance of them, function is the primary objective here. What about sticking a 5mm waterproof foam (in sheet form) inside the arches?
Hi Wayne
I've used 3M anti-chip protective coating on a few of my fibreglass cars to great effect and it can also be overpainted. It leaves a textured rubberised coating. The texture can be altered by application. They also do a smooth version. Most bodyshop suppliers in the UK stock these items.

That is just the ticket Dave, thanks. Any idea on where I can get some? Obviously I have had a look on the net and found details of the material in question but thought that if you have actually used the stuff you may be able to direct me.
Thank you all for your suggestions, Wayne.
