Shame my first post isn't under better circumstances but hoping for some help...

Recently took delivery of my first Porsche and pulled over today on A11 for 110mph eek Was only on A11 for one junction but caught up by unmarked car already on road. God knows what speed he was doing to catch me up.

No lecture or b*ll*cking from police just infomred that I would be receiving summons in post for "excessive speed". Conditions were dry, sunny, v clear road (this was acknowleged by police) and the section I was travelling on is a straight dual carriageway. I didn't see any video/speed measuring equipment when I was in police car but then I was somewhat distracted.

Am I looking at a ban? Has anyone escaped a ban in similar situation?

Should I appoint a solicitor & does anyone know how much they typically charge?

Any advice would be really welcome. Thanks.

I got a months ban + fine for 104 mph on the a3 a while back. I suspect you will get similar. Place to talk speeding is the speeding plod & law forum here or on a different site called pepipoo.

Which junction, and what type of unmarked car (description please)?

Go over to the 'Speed, Plod & the Law' forum and ask for solicitor recommendations for speeding. You need a specialist. Don't post daft things like 'but I was speeding at 100' etc - it may be used against you.

Sorry to hear you were so unlucky, we'll all get done for speeding one day, it's the new tax so don't feel singled out! Stylish though

What Porsche did you go for?

It was just before the Balsham exit. Graphite coloured Vectra or Omega (not entirey sure).

Went for the Cayman - absolutely love it!

You were speeding, most of us do it, most of the time its safe (as is the topic of many threads). Sometimes its not. Sometimes it seems unfair. You got caught. Under present laws it seems like you do not have a leg to stand on. Good luck!

sorry to hear about your bad luck; were you travelling towards Newmarket or towards the M11?

As has been said before, we've all done it.

With the situation as you describe should hopefully just be a 28 day ban & £500(ish) fine.

Assuming you will be prosecuted legally - a big assumption. Get a good traffic offenses lawyer and leave no stone unturned in adherence to the legal process.

That's my area too, the road isn't usually to busy and ideal for a quick blast, good luck with the outcome.

Anything over a ton is a ban I'm afraid -get a good brief to keep the cost and duration down.

Dan - did you get any points with that?

I was close to a ban but pulled the usual "need a licence to earn a living etc" and got left with a huge fine and one point left on my licence.

I wouldn't advise that having done it myself. It cost me a small fortune in fees and I had one of his recomended Baristers instead of Nick. He was badly prepared and ulitmatly I think I could of done it myself by beeing humble and pleeding licence needed for work etc. I was doing 105 and got 5 points and a £700 fine + a huge legal bill!

Good luck.

I got a 21 day ban and £600 (reduced from £1000 for early guilty plea) earlier this year for 110 on the A3. I did a reasonable amount of searching and questioning and decided that if I was going to plead guilty (which I did as there seemed little point in contending the evidence they produced) then there was little point in paying a solicitor to do it for me. I'd wait until the NIP arrives because they'll have a photocopy of all the police evidence. The other thing to remember is that the CPS are obliged to reduce the fine by a third if you plead guilty at the earliest oppo. have a look www.5ive-o.org/forum/index.php there's some useful stuff and god luck!

A friend of mine is a top solicitor specialising in this sort of thing. Says that often employing an expensive solicitor really winds them up, and when procedure has been followed and all evidence is in place this can mean a worse result.

He says the "general" guidelines are:
Up to 100 - points & fine
100 to 110 - points, fine, possible short ban
Over 110 - book thrown at you / anything goes.

Personally I would check that their evidence is all in order, and if it is hold your hands up and say you're sorry / new car excitement / etc. Be respectful & polite. Hopefully that'll get you a short ban that doesn't really hurt and a reasonable fine.

Pal of mine did this when caught at 104 (2am on an empty M3 in a Griff). Got 14 day ban & £200 fine.

Chaps what does it do to your insurance after you have been banned for a month for speeding over 100mph?

Depends on what the magistrates do - when I was banned I had a 14 day ban & no points - ins. co. were notified but it made no difference at renewal.

To the OP - I hired a solicitor (10 years back) - used to advertise in Porsche Post. Cost about £300, I was absolutely gutted to get the ban, however the major benefit of the solicitor was that I had a very small fine (£50-ish) whereas others on the day were in the £300-800 range for similar speeds on the same stretch of the M3 (they also had min 6-month bans eek .
I've not been speeding since then...
