Where are all the black 996's?
Discussion
Having spent an age now researching and indeed looking at 993's and 996's, I've decided to go for a 996.....but they're all bleedin' SILVER! If anyone know's of anyone looking to sell a circa 2000 996 in basalt back with black leather for up to £30k....then I'm your man! I don't think I've got the patience for this searching!

yeah, there are a lot of silver - i really wanted a colbalt or Lapis blue or black one with black interior, but as Magic said, you'll really limit your options if you only consider 1 colour, and even worse if your looking for specific colour combo's..
I ended up with a midnight blue with stone - and had to comprimise on the specs - but got a good car with warranty..
So, as Magic said, focus on the key things you want, but dont limit yourself too much - buy on condition - and be prepared to comprimise, or wait a very long time.

Sounds like a great car, but the one preference I really want is a manual...
I've found a '99 Ocean blue 996 with graphite interior for £27,995...could be a bit overpriced? But seems mint...saw it yesterday, driving tomorrow.

As we always say - buy on condition - £28k is about right for a '99 with around 60k on the clock IMO, depending on spec of course...
Couldn’t agree more with some of these guys.
I spent AGES talking my self out of a TVR and into a Porsche. Then when I decided on one, what spec/year/price????
My advice is go for one with a good spec and colour (That sounds obvious doesn’t it?). The only rule of thumb that I was told was that Silver and Black are the best colours. Personally I think a standard 996 looks crap in Black, but GT3 kits/Turbos/C4S look great. I was told to stay away from the dark Blues/Greens as they can look a little tired and old. Also make sure you DONT buy the tan interior. Everyone choice is different though. Personally I like the tan interior, but its a love or hate thing. Just like a yellow car - not good resellers
I went for mine as I hadn’t seen many 911's about in that colour (Zenith Blue) and it had all the spec it needs for resale( 18's, aircon, Sunroof, mem leather, park sensors, Full carbon interior trim, suede, rear wiper, tinted screen, stereo upgrade, etc).
I also wanted the GT3 kit, but I think it limits who you sell the car onto.
I’ve always been one for compromising to get a bargain, but I’m glad I didn’t with a car like this.
What ever you buy, you will want something faster - hence my dilemma now

i'd say that 996 is about on the money from the ones ive seen...
just buy with your head, not your heart - if it doesnt have the warranty, invest in the 111 point check, even if you decide not to buy the extended warranty, it'll warn you about upcoming bills!
(I saw one Ocean Blue 996 at £27k with 50k on the clock, pretty good condition till i read the last service report and realised it needed a grand spending on the brakes, new tyres all round etc etc.. would've cost me closer to £30k by then, so i walked away)

It comes with a 'comprehensive' 6 month warranty and the car is well known to the dealer, so I think I'm fairly trusting....
Be careful with that warranty (Im assuming its not a OPC one).. they generally have a claim limit of £5k or £7k... and a lot of exemptions...
Is it from a dealer then?
Hear, hear. I have been searching for the right black/black manual 996 TT for a while now - they are ALL either tiptronic or silver. Interestingly this appears to have pushed the price of silver cars down - and manuals are also fetching more than tiptronics on the used market as far as I can see (despite being cheaper to buy when new).
I am not in a mad rush - but as soon as the right car comes along I'll snap it up.
