Oh dear. Only a short bit, but found it interesting, until the last sentence.

• TVR owners showed their disgust at the company's decision to leave Blackpool by delivering a petition to 10 Downing Street last Sunday, writes Rod Ker
Not an unusual event in itself, but the method of delivery was rather special: examples of the marque (above) from all over Britain, many carrying workers from the factory, converged on London and drove to Whitehall, in the process breaking the Guinness world record for the largest one-make convoy.
Previously held by the Mazda MX-5, the record now stands at 478. Fears that this would inevitably result in a new Biggest Breakdown record were unfounded.

Take it on the chin. Everyone has a dig at something. The previous record was held by a group of hairdressers going to a convention!

Surely most of the male mx owners out there have said passenger there to help them?

Ok ok... I'll stop. But only because my car is has an even more embarissing public image and I'd only get anywhere if I didnt get full boost atm (Which sends the alternator into hyperdrive then kills it) lol... we need to get some TVR's of our own and soon mike!!

The Motoring section has gone from a good read to a load of crap in the last year or so though. It's now mixed in with gadgets and similar tat. Real shame

[The fact that it makes the Telegraph or any other form of media, if I'm not mistaken, was the point in it all. Get stuck in any lengthy traffic jam, and you will find all makes and models ending up at the side of the road not being able to cope with it, for one reason or another.

These folks wore their hearts on their sleeves and get my plaudits, and I'm sure that 99.9% of the rest of you feel the same?

Best regards,
James Sim.

world records only apply if you tell them beforehand and get it verified....we've had a hell of a lot more than 500 Tivs in one place before...

It's got nothing to do with having cars in the same place, it's the convoy bit.

There were considerably more than 478 TVRs on LT. The Mets estimated 400-450 at the Ace Cafe 90 minutes before the start. The queue for the toilets tends to support this figure. MP radio also estimated a further 400 in and around London causing traffic chaos away from the Ace at the same time. There were still queues from the Nth Circular as the cars set off.

The 478 refers to those cars that crossed a nominal line and were recorded on video. I would also point out that the camera's battery had to be changed mid-record missing 15-20.

What this means is that the Guiness record severly underestimated the number of TVRs on LT. The 'official' figure, ie that of the Met police, has not been published but was at 800+ whilst I could see at least 50 still queueing to get to the Ace Cafe. 1000? More? We'll never know, any more than anyone knows the real number of Citroens. We can be sure of 478 though.
