Suck or Blow

Not what you first thought.

My S2 is set up with the fans to the rear of the rad and set to blow through the rad from engine bay outside.

One of the problems I had with my Westfield was related to overheating. The fan was originally set to blow and the overheating was cured by reversing the wires and getting the fan to rotate in the other direction and therfore suck cooler air in through the rad.

Before I do anything daft, does anyone know if this would improve the cooling on the S2 or indeed if reversing the wires is OK to do with the S2 fans.

The temperature did start to creep up on the way to London Thunder, not a major problem but a little concerening. Thinking prevention rather than cure.

I'm not clear what you mean by 'front' and 'rear'. Either you're using these to mean the opposite of their normal use, or your installation is wrong.

You can have the fans in front of the rad blowing through the rad (i.e. when you stand in front of the car and look in through the grill you see the fan), or behind the rad sucking through the rad (i.e. when you look under the bonnet you see the fan). What is absolutely essential in either case is that the fan is moving the air in the same direction as the natural ram air flow i.e. fresh air enters the grill at the front, passes through the rad and into the engine bay. If your fans are trying to reverse this flow then they will fight against the ram air flow and the result will be terrible.

My thoughts exactly, the fans are engine side and blowing outwards, cant be right can it?

The fan on my S2 (mounted on the back of the rad - as all S2's AFAIK) sucks air through the radiator into the engine bay. Later cars (S3 onwards) have the fan mounted in front of the rad, blowing air through it.

Contacts reversed?

Contacts must be reversed. Swap 'em over.

Mine ig S2 with fan in front of rad blowing through it toward engine...but that's a whole different thread.

Yup. Also check that the fan blades are either symetrical, or have the convex curved surface towards the front of the car. (If you have a assymetric 'pusher' fan working as a puller or vicer-versa, it will be very inefficient.)

Had her out toady and the fans are set to 'suck' and are behind the rad. I think they were originally in front and blowing but the previous owner moved them because it is a bit cramped. Will see over the warmer months and may change to some Pacet or similar designed to suck.
