Mini GTR?

Saw this trackday car at the Exeter Kit and sports car show recently..150BHP & 420KG. It's called a Retoga.



Bears more than a passing similarity to a GTR I'd say?

Seriously, that is just a "shrunken" GTR. Not to be a d*ck to this new car, but isn't it illegal to base a car off someone else's? Even if is a different size. I know GM sued Avanti after they released an SUV that looked similar to the Hummer H2.

Cool concept none-the-less to knock the weight down even more.

As someone on this forum once politely reminded me, the Ultima looks very like several earlier Le Mans racers, so it's not like the design is new.

Having said that, I have also seen this at the odd kit car day, and almost had to do a double take...

Looking a bit closer at some of the pictures on the website, the suspension setup looks quite nicely designed, with in-board push rods all round

Note, the chassis tubing looks to be a smaller gauge than the GTR's, so not sure if this would have an effect on relative safety.

I saw one of these at Snetterton a couple of years back, racing in 750 motorsport. It is pretty small but good for cheaper motorsport!

There are plenty of cars that look similar to the Ultima and some were around before the Ultima came along.

Indeed Crafty, on their website is also the Prosport 3000 it comes close



but that bike engined 200+hp lightweight must be a cracker on the track! they say;

"We have completed the installation and testing of the Suzuki 1300cc engine installation into the LR1 chassis. The engine in fully standard form fitted with a SBD Motorsport fully programable engine managment system is pushing out a healthy 204bhp. Yes that is correct.... In the light chassis of the LR1 this gives the car an impressive 443bhp/ton"

Ok - off-subject run with me, Here's a rotrax by Dennis Adams

Which was based on a leading 4x4 platform - the Cortina...

Which was then built onto a Range Rover chassis and called a Dakar by Barry Chantler - with permission and under licence from Adams.


A few ended up in australia where it was cloned and called a "bushie" - By a guy called John Davies.


So copying cars is nothing new...

and the retoga has been around for a year or two allready. completly different to the ultima apart from its looks on pictures, CNCed alloy bulkheads and suspension cantilevers. much smaller, in real life the retoga is a little awkward to look at methinks, it has a very long nose compared to the rest of the car. they are quick though.

Just had a chat with the guy out there, sounds like they had tried gull wing doors as well, and also, like Ted/Rich, found out the hard way that they don't stay on at high speed !!!

Anyone know off the top of their head, or by measurement, the dimensions of a recent Scooby motor and the gearbox (excluding the rear diff link of course!)...

The car is not designed to be put through SVA so will not be a road legal prospect.
