Hi all my old 2001 996 tt is not very well smash every time i go over aprox 120-130 the abs and psm fail light's come on the dash and say's go to work shop and they stay on till i turn the car off then back on. Then all is fine till i go over that speed again the first time this happened it was very wet so i thought all the water going in the wheel arches at that kinda speed had upset something but it now does it every time since and i could really do with the abs (not bothered bout the psm as i turn it off anyway) at that kinda speed please help

...fairly common fault on the 996 (Turbo or not) - the Mass Airflow Sensor needs to be replaced. This is covered by the Porsche extended warranty - otherwise costs about £500 including labour, I think. My 996 C4 now needs this doing for the second time in 4 years.

hi thanks i've just replaced the maf sensor (£140ish euro car part's + 5 min's to fit myself no warranty 500 bhp) as it was not running 100% this fixed the prob now perfect but cant see how this would affect the abs or psm as the maf sensor is engine related not brake or stability / traction related am i wrong could well be

£500, That must be the easiest job ever to do, takes about 5min to replace.

...I'm afraid I'm no Techy, but when those two lights come on together (intermittantly) - it's almost always the MAF sensor. Of course, it could be something else I suppose.

It puts the psm/abs light on because there is a breakdown of information coming from the engine control unit to the psm/abs unit.....actual error code is torque transfer disturbed from DME (DME = Engine ecu...)

My abs and psm light came on together yesterday on my 996. It was on for about 2 minutes then I stopped the car. Restarted it and it has not come on since? Do you think I should get it checked out? I have a Porsche Warranty .

cheers

ABS and PSM failures are generally the MAF sensor are they?

Im just asking because ive had my fiat remapped and fitted with an induction kit (33bhp increase! ) and now im getting engine faults / abs/ asr faults. I know the engine fault needs a tweak to the map to stop it running lean, i dont know about the other faults though.

i know its completely off topic and i apologise! i read this forum as you lot are so sarcastic its ridiculous! thumbup

Maybe a 100% increase in power is too much for the car?

Try fitting a set of 145/80/15's.

hi s and c i,ve looked at part no's and it's same as the old unit could it be a faulty one or is this unlikely it did happen as soon as i fitted it what else could it be i've not had it on porsche tester as yet was going to try a replacement maf first neede to ring euro car parts and get them to agree first
