Off to Germany in two weeks. Notice the 'ring is open on the weekend of December 8 & 9. Anyone been in December? Is it drivable or an accident waiting to happen?
It's like anywhere else - the temperature at some times of year will tend to be higher or lower thanthe annual average, but there will always be variations. Likewise with the damp/wet.
Of course, the colder it is, the less likely that dampness will evaporate.
You would be wise to check the website the day before, as they're not obliged to open when the circuit is considered to be too dangerous for public lapping.
If you drive according to the conditions, and as you would on any public road, you'll be fine.
Have fun.
I've been there in November (though not this November), and remember having a nice day's driving because it was crisp 'n dry. As has been said here, it's all to do with the weather, and if conditions are poor, you'll have a terrible time. You don't want conditions to be glorious, either, because there's a good chance a lot of people will be trying to squeeze in the last run of the season.
Try to get a weekly forecast vefore you go, and if it looks promising, cross your fingers and hope for the best.
Edit - As flemke points out, if conditions are dangerous, or become dangerous, they close the Nordschleif; so check this out as close to your planned visit as you can.

Cheers guys
I'm on my way to KW for some new suspension bits, so if its closed I'll just enjoy the bratwurst and beer.

Absolutely. It's a gorgeous area of Germany - especially between Eifel and Freiburg further south. Frieburg and its surroundings is a bit of a gourmet's paradise as well; which is worth noting because there is a dearth of great places to go in the Adenau/Nurburg area.
Things were a little different in the seventies then.
We used to stay at the Goldener Pflug, just opposite the number two paddocks.
Their specialty was Swinehaxe which was a pig’s leg just above the knee. When they first bought it to the table, you expected it to be carved, but you got one each. Best pork ever tasted. Lovely local white wines should you fancy a change from beer.
Pudding was always these monster foot high creations with hot chocolate, ice cream and lashings of kirsche like substance.
We always slept well. Had to pay for repainting the ceiling one good result.

Planning to be there for a few laps. Last year it was all but empty. What car will you be in?
Will be hiring something, probably a BMW.

I'll be in a Silver MK1 GT3. Though if the weather is pants, I shall be in the bar!
