Reconditioning alloys
Discussion
So I bought a metallic base and thinners, and some two pack (iso) laquer and activator, but I've decided I don't want to bother buying the air fed mask etc, and having to get enough pipe to feed from the compressor in the next door building for the mask and/or gun.
Sooo, I want to use celly laquer, but can I use that with the base metallic I bought for covering with the two pack laquer? Will the base go off on it's own? How long is best to leave it before using celly laquer (think thinner for celly laquer might do things to base if it's not cured fully?!?!)
Finally, I'm fancying experimenting. If I mix celly black with my celly laquer, will the clear coat end up with a nice shadow effect finish. Straight on it'll be quite transparrent (don't mind it being a shade darker), but from an angle it'll darken off as your looking through more laquer and hence more black?
Cheers for any hints and tips before I start making a mess of my painstakingly cleaned alloys!

Sprayed both my bumpers with 2 pack lacquer, Not a good idea in a closed garage without a mask, lol.
If you can I would use the 2 pack as it is much tougher than cele, Just make sure you have good ventilation if you do use it.
The cele lacquer shouldn't need thinners for spraying.
How long for leaving it would depend on temparature etc.
The base will go off on it's own, what paint type is it.
Yes you can add colour to lacquer but not sure if it will give the candy effect that you want, I have only done it for tinting my rear lights to the car colour, so not sure if the silver would show through or not.

The metallic base was bought specifically for going over with two pack iso, the guy said it would go off in an hour ready for spraying with the two pack.
Just from experience spraying celly on to a base even after 24hrs can make the base run, but I guess thats the thinners if you thin down the laquer.
Yeah, two pack is harder, but I've found if you let celly harden with some heat for a good week or so it's "hard enough"... I'll be applying many coats of wheel wax afterwards to protect as I know celly laquer can dull off sooner than two pack...
Thinking about 1:10 on the black/clearcoat... gonna give it a go on an old wheel first and see how it comes out, but will be doing the base on the proper alloys anyway... main concern is mixing the celly laquer and black or going for plain clear two pack (have the paint, just not the gear, tempted to take to a local sprayer just to get the clear thrown on, then I get stuck in with cutting compound
