Interesting or what

It was just brought to my attention that the proprietor of a well-known Mini business has been arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen Jack Knight gears and parts.
It's in the public domain on the Jack Knight web site for those who may be interested or who may be concerned that they have stolen parts in their gearboxes.

It would certainly make me nervous about buying anything from them now, not that I've ever done so.
From the Jack Knight web site, it appears that the volume of parts stolen was huge. So huge, in fact, that it's lead to the closure of the factory in Woking. One might wonder why that should be as, surely, they were insured for theft. If the quantity is so high, one might expect imprisonment for those concerned including those guilty of 'receiving'.

On the Jack Knight website there is no mention of them ceasing trading, just that they have closed the Woking-based operation.
I, too, have wondered about the standards of engineering at that establishment. Of course, this problem will quite possibly lead to a total loss of confidence by the customer-base followed by insolvency and/or liquidation. Then, those with outstanding warranty claims or entitlement will lose out big-time. Perhaps there will be an auction of bits. Now, there's a thought.
What originally surprised me was when someone had their twin SU's allegedly 'balanced' there, but it was done without slackening off the linkage joining one to the other (yes, really!). They also set the mixture so weak on another engine, that it was in serious danger of burning pistons out - it was a new engine which I built as well. The guy brought it back to me, we took it to Peter Baldwin who sort-of wound each carb down by about 8 flats on the rolling road and advanced it up about 6 degrees static!

hmm..
I have rarely used minispeed due to their prices...and I certainly wouldn't use their workshop due to their attitude and the general air of it all.
I wonder if they were cutting corners and hiking the prices due to some bad financial problems?
either way, glad that it's sorted out now..
