www.lulu.com do photobooks (like photobox) but with no set size, amount of pages, type of cover etc - they will then host said book and sell to the public (for not much of a cut) so I thought I'd try them out.

Photo quality is about the same as photobox (ie - fine for pics of the local fete etc. colours good, but not up to photography book std - paper too thin) Bizzarly though, they don't seem to be able to get photos straight on the page.... which is crap.

If you have a novel you want publishing, I'm sure this would be a good service, but I'm afraid the photobook side is not on the money.

Git Farter,

I bought me a book which is no longer in print from lulu in the USA yesterday. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hi i've just been experimenting with iphoto,i don't know if you have tried this program, you can flow the pics into a book template and print them all imposed. I have a digital press at my disposal at work so can print on most substrates. The books i've printed so far have come out really well. we also have a bindery at work so they put hard back covers on for me. We have been thinking about doing this commercially, is there much call for it ?

I'd certainly be interested in seeing a sample. People have suggested I make my 'photo a day for a year' a book (hence my looking at lulu).

If you were seriously interested in making this a money maker, I suggest you build one on www.photobox.co.uk and look at the quality... it has to be 30% better than that (mainly paper quality methinks)... but if it is, I bet you could cash in... although photobox have such a good service (and head start) apart from the quality of the book, if they suddenly upped their game, you could be blown out of the water!

Had a google earler as UK prices seem a bit loony tunes compared to Lulu.

Anyone tried FotoInsight.co.uk ?
Their prices seem quite reasonable....
