PORSCHE DAY.......
Discussion
Evening all
I have just booked myself onto this track day on the 29th December. I reckon a few of us should get involved. A good opportunity to drive a great circuit over the xmas period when we should have some spare time.
It will be the first time I have tracked my 993 and Im hoping for some driving tips from you lot. I reckon the more Porkers we get out there, the better the day will be. Its only £99. Im going up there with a friend who is taking his Boxster S. Should be a great day.
Maybe also a good opportunity for some passenger rides in our fellow Porsche PH'ers so we can potentially eye up our next set of wheels! Bring girls if you want - BUT IM NOT!! Any feedback welcome...

Oh spotted elsewhere that this beasty will be there on the 29th... Looks a bit of a weapon 'eh!

WTF 690bhp I bet that's an interesting car to drive in the wet. As for the Boxster driver that was shameful. I hope he reads the posts because he needs to realise what a complete knob he was. As for a race suit I think you are a little unfair. I wear one and so do many others I know that have pretty good track manners. Just sad that this Di**head had the full set, no idea, a hairdressers car and a race suit to boot.

Its not the same guy! Although he seemed quicker than you on the straights!!!

err if you realy think its ok that because you are faster on the straights than a car thats caught you up,(he's not caught you up because a helicopter dropped him just behind you FFS, hes faster over a lap than you!) is ok not to lift a tad & let him past you really shouldnt be thinking of track days, as someone who catches you is going to get so frustrated with that, that they may either punt you off or give you a good slap in the pits.

Trackdays are not neccesarily about getting past someone becuase they are not competent behind the wheel,,remember they don't hand out prizes at the end of the session
If that is your aim, perhaps it is time to go racing?
If I was in the Golf, having asessed the Boxsta guys driving (loved the line through craner!)I would have been inclined to hold back, let him go ahead then enjoy my day.
I bet he thinks he did nothing wrong, based on the only overtake on the straights rule!

Would agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment but equally trackdays are about having fun and using and learning good track etiquette is part of that fun. I bet the guy in the Boxster never used his mirrors once and if he did and he had listened to the obligatory briefing beforehand he will have been told to keep an eye on your mirrors and whenever possible let faster cars through. I know the Golf driver could have dropped back, but how often and how far should you be forced to do this because the guy in front is an ar**hole. It's only a matter of time before you'll be up this numnutts chuff once again. Sorry but this sort of behaviour is unacceptable and dangerous and the marshalls must be partially to blame because they probably didn't bother using their blue flags - most of them never do(except at Brands Hatch).

Agree up to a point, in that the marshalls should be a little more pro-active.
However if someone is clearly both on a mission and clueless my ego is fine with hanging back, it is just not worth damaging your car...a polite word with the clown in the pits or with the marshalls usually does the trick.
Agree on brands being reasonable with the blue flags, but I was suprised how busy it was out in the woods last sunday considering the conditions, there could easily have been more incidents than there were.

The Boxter driver should have backed off, let the camera car through, and then carried on learning. His lines were poor and his lack of vision was plain to see. He was overdriving his car and was looking more and more messy because of it. The art of going quickly on a circuit is about getting the bits involving the steering wheel and brakes right first. When you have done that, and when they come natural and flow you can look at linking them together via the straight bits and the loud pedal, something Mr Boxter seemed unable to do.
Housemaster, ...the Boxsta guy is clearly so inexperienced he cannot fathom the possibility of a 20+ year old very well driven Golf coming past him on track...
The fact he is wearing a race suit and is in a Porsche makes it even more dangerous as he pushes the envelope of his clearly limited ability refusing to let such a car pass....how many more laps before we would have seen an incident?

First: I am NOT the Boxster driver in that video. Mine is red! Alex knows the car...
The Boxster was, without doubt, significantly quicker in the straights than the dear lizard's track slag finest. Since iguana could not drive out of the corner with sufficient extra power to out-drag the guy on the straights and the Boxster was largely on-line on the entry to the corners (largely) there was always going to be a lot of trouble going past. The bloke, however, broke the cardinal track day rule: get caught up two corners in a row? Get out of the way - you're holding up the guy behind.
It is quite bizarre to see the exact situation I find myself in on track days played out with the Boxster as the more powerful car. I drive a Boxster - and usually I'm the one lacking the sheer grunt to drag past - and catch up more potent cars in the corners.
Mostly at PCGB days drivers of slower cars are pretty decent and get out of the way. I certainly try to get out of the way of cars faster than I am. Why hold them up? Once they're by they won't hold me up...
But there is always the odd occasion. I can think of at least one driver who will make his vehicle as wide as possible. Why? What does it prove? Unless we're all in identical cars it can't be about how big our willies are.
