GT3 Battery Life
Discussion
Okay guys - how long should you be able to leave a GT3 for without it needing to be charged before you can start it? A couple of times in the last couple of months I have had to leave it for a full week without exercise and both times it had to be plugged into the wall over night before I could fire it up.
I suspect it needs a new battery, and if so should I expect that to be a warrenty item (given that it is a two year old which I bought from an OPC in the front half of this very year) or am I going to be reaching for the vaseline...?

My GT3 is 20 moths old.
It's done 7000 miles.
I often leave it for two weeks, no problem.
I have a 993 GT3 (ask if you wish) and after a week the battery which is nearly new, is almost pooped.
I always keep a spare fully charge battery and a couple of jump leads handy to fire the thing up. At least in the 996 (but only after three weeks in winter), so long as you can unlock the bonnet, it's dead easy to jump start.

Had recent probs with my battery when the car was left for 3 weeksand it had completely died. It could be jump started but after running for an hour died straght away after turning engine off meaning the battery was useless. Guys who changed my battery told me that Porsche have this problem a lot (not sure if this is true as more people would have talked about it) as they dry charge before putting in the car and only add fluids just before fitting to car sometimes damaging the battery. MAybe someone can give a more informed reason as i don't believe what i'm writing myself!
I wouldn't buy another battery from Porsche.
Based on my recent experience with my 996 C4S. I'd look for a similar rated Varta or Bosch Silver. Euro Car Parts sell them. It will be around £90 instead of £250 for the OPC part (IIRC batteries and other 'wear' items are now on the menu based pricing, copy available on PCGB forum)

What's a 993 GT3.......a typo?

It's a 993 C2S with the X51 964RS engine, single mass flywheel, closer ratio gearbox, lowered suspension (now on billies with a Neimeiser geometry set-up), lsd, abd and a few other choice options from new. But LHD.
So, just a little short of a 993RS --- a 993 GT3 ? Not a typo !

Like I said, a typo...
I'm sure its quick and handles really well though...
Well I have a Mk2 GT3 and I know mine is a 996
I have just (10 minutes ago!) plugged in my new CTEK XS3600 charger/trickle charger/conditioner because I wanted to make sure it was fine and the battery stayed fit and healthy over the winter months. Only arrived this morning, so to early to give a review, but after attaching it to the battery positive and bulkhead (earth) it seems to be up and running and doing its job.
I was able to easily feed the charger wire through the bonet where it meets the windscreen and I have rested the (very small) CXS3600 on my windscreen and plugged it into the wall. Always nervous with these sorts of things, and I am sure I will have a fiddle at the weekend and see if I can use the quick realease cable because currently I am using the croc clips, but seems ok.
Will give feedback when I have had time to judge it!
