I am taking some pictures of products for my website..
I want the products to sit on a black piece of glass/plastic so that there is a slight reflection of the product.

Whats the best material to use? I have seen some of UKBOBS pictures with this, any ideas?

That might work well.

Alternatively, you could use a cheap piece of glass on top of black card. Change the card for a new coloured reflection/background. The thicker the glass the deeper/wetter your photos are likely to look.

Or, after being quoted £150 for a big slab of marble, I found a smaller one in Tesco for a tenner, which is what I use, the darker the surface the more colour is picked up.

My white shots with reflections were shot on an extra large white plate, but being white the reflections tend to get blown by the flash.

Slightly OT, Ukbob, you posted the other day about how to avoid reflections on glass when shooting. I wonder if a polarising filter might help. It wont eliminate everything but might help just to leave some reflection.

Never thought of that. Im going to experiment with water droplet photography (I really need a macro lens, or extention tubes first) and if I decide to buy a fish tank I'll look into it more. How many stops of light will I loose?

Two I think. If you are on a tripod it shouldn't matter.
