Ask Tracey, she'll know
Carl, JWB, aka Johnnywishbone owns Specialist Cars of Malton and frequents these very pages from time to time. He has just sold his but has another 2 on the way. I'm sure he'll be along soon to tell you there is no substitute!

Thank you all for your responses. I already feel broken in.
I will be getting photos prepared in the next few days, but the colour is GT Silver with black double stitched ('06) interior and she is a beauty, but i would say that.
Currently i am feeding it with a little electricity via a trickle charger, as i understand that after 5 days of starvation, it shuts down and the starting procedure and jump starting is a little tricky.
The infamous clutch action is a real challenge, and i would appreciate any advice that you could offer - it is particularly difficult pulling away from a stationary position with half to full lock (and particlularly on an uphill gradient!). Once she is moving she is perfect.

The battery ought to last for a few weeks. Any chance that you are thinking of the "Sleep Mode" function (or whatever it's called) that requires use of the physical key rather than the de-immobiliser in order to gain entry if the car's not been de-immobilised for five days?
As for uphill and other starts, as yours appears to be '06, you've got the later iteration of mapping.
With all starts in the car, all you need to keep in mind is not to touch the throttle until you're moving. Let the system decide how much throttle you need. The only timing/coordination that is required is between brake and clutch.
You may have noticed in owner's book that if you're setting off on a level plane, they recommend starting in 2nd. Again, just let the system decide on the throttle opening - it works.

Dear Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms Sleep Envy
Thank you for your response - like your red RS and the interesting car ownership history you have had. Regrettably, i cannot remeber all 105 cars i have had to date, but i am racking my brains!!!!!

cheers, if you do come to the Ace I'd be more than willing to swap key for 20 mins

Is it really just as simple as just easing your foot off the clutch and the computer takes care of the rest?

Thanks mate. I sort of worked this out in the end after constantly stalling the car. Mine is actually an '04 model with various upgrades (interior) including upgrade clutch and presumably software? When i do let the clutch up gradually to biting point, with a 1/2 to full lock it does want to kangaroo a bit - this, i can't seem to control that well. I have resorted to holding back from a junction, pull off with straight wheels and then turn the wheel when she's rolling.....
The other problem is that because of my size, getting my arm down the side of the seat to get a hold of the hand break is virtually impossible and so uphill stationery starts are somewhat of a challenge. Hey, but the pain is definitely worth it!!!!!!!!!

You can check with PCGB to see whether your car has had the remapping. Thanks mate. I sort of worked this out in the end after constantly stalling the car. There were a handful of other recall items (none other of which I can recall, no pun intended). It wouldn't hurt to ascertain that yours had had them.
(I had not heard that part-way through production they actually changed the clutch; I thought that it was a software change.)
I couldn't say about the uphill start with a lot of lock on, as I try to avoid parking my car backwards on an incline - why go through the hassle? I've had cars with carbon clutches and no special software, and uphill starts just aren't worth it if you can avoid them.
Anyhow, I would strongly recommend that you get out of this handbrake-restart mode, which is just bollox. This is especially so in cars with a fly-off handbrake - sometimes you're trying to get rolling but you can't even be sure that the handbrake is completely released.
For an uphill start of any kind, try heel-and-toe. I presume that you know how to do it now; if not, you should learn, as it's a very useful technique. The CGT's pedals are correctly set to facilitate this.
For an uphill start: start engine; put foot on footbrake; depress clutch; put car in 1st; release handbrake (and then forget about it); coordinate letting out clutch with easing pressure on brake pedal...and you're away.
