Is it good to have an apple with a dent?

The tape disappearing in the second one does not work for me

Dent bad.

Disconection (due to DOF) between tape on apple and tape in background bad.

Noise bad.

Only joking about the noise...

Ive fixed the dent, removed the tape measure (which was held in place behind ye olde apple with a giant paperclip) and thanks to tesco salad, one of the apples has green leaves

Unbeknownst to you all, its thanks to my steadily improving photoshop skills, a dish rag and my grungy holey ol' boxer shorts that the highlights are not blown. I used my trusty old boxers plus the rag to obscure half of the rectangle highlight that the soft box was making. Any brown highlights are purely coincidental.

Cripes, Ive just realised... I didnt wash the apple which I ate half of afterwards, and the only bottle I could find to spray on the water droplets was stain remover (which has nothing to do with my boxers I hasten to add).

gurgle.yack.choke... no no its ok, fear not, Im alive and shall live to post about microstock another day. Luckily for everyone

The leaves make it look like a tomato IMHO... and would the first pic's shadow not being wholly contained in the pic be a problem for purchasers?

Just my amateur thoughts

ETS - I enjoy you're microstock posts Bob: nice food for thought!

censored After 10 mins of looking for the dent I then read 3 posts further down to see you'd fixed it. Thought I was going crazy!!!

I know nothing about photography but I do know that Bob's food pics usually make me feel peckish!
In this case, though, the "apple" leaves look totally wrong - I'd agree with the tomato comparison...

Point taken. I thought the leaves were ok, but I suppose to the trained applehead, they probably look like a terrible wig.

Cheers. They're not going to go away Although for the sake of those who cant stand stock talk, Id be happy to have my conversations of image saleability elsewhere, and stick to posting pics on PH.

Teeth marks are a cool idea.

Still shooting on white, just not inside the tent. Never again!

I dont like the tent because it made my images look flat. Without a tent highlights and simple reflections are possible:

The tent seems to limit the cameras ability to resolve the very detail that the light should be creating.

Prawns inside the tent:

Prawns outside the tent:

Neither shot is great, but first pic (inside the tent) had about twice as much processing, yet it still looks twice as flat.

Outside the tent, colours seem to be much more vivid, alive, and have more shadow, detail and highlights etc.

Mm, I see what you mean. The second prawns shot looks a lot more "real".

In the first prawns shot, the background was grey, the prawns were grey, it looked like there was a grey fog hanging over the meal and took a lot of work to get looking clean.

In the second shot, I barely touched the levels, what you see is (roughly) how it came out of the camera.

huuuuuge difference! Do you have studio flash, and what do you want to shoot?
