I need new discs and pads on the front of my 968. I've got Big Reds on and haven't changed the brakes on it before.

Where's the best place to buy the discs? I fancy doing the job myself. I'm told the 993 RS discs are best and cheaper than the tt ones.

Also, I'm intending going for the EBC Yellows. Anyone any experience of them, or can recommend anything else?

Porsch-Apart is a good place to start on sourcing the parts (01706 824053).

Yes they do new/used/recon parts...the lot. Even a few cars from time to time.

I recently got a great deal (about £110 each) from Parr - they effectively matched the best OPC price I could find.

Make sure that they are genuine Porsche. If not you'll warp them. A number of companies will telll you that they are made for Porsche but it is a load of cobblers. Buy the genuine article and it will do the job.

Regarding pads..
Ive had the BEST results from PAGID,, either Blues or Oranges....
If you look at the EBC pads they have "shamfered" edges which in turn reduce the overall pad / disc contact patch . The Pagids do therefore giving you BETTER braking....

Orange are sold as being the better track ones (higher friction coefficient at higher temperatures and won't fade until hotter). Although obviously the trade off is the blue's have a higher friction coefficient when cold(er).

Phoned around but could not get to the £110 mark for the discs for OEM parts. I was offered non OEM, but the seller conceded they had a habit or warping - so obviously not a good alternative whatever the price.

Paid £115 + VAT (£140) each at k300 (www.k300performance.co.uk/) who also run the main UK Porsche 968 forum, so I felt I owed them a bit of business. Also went for Pagid blues at £150 + VAT.

ATE disks work very well, and are a touch cheaper than the ones you've quoted.

Also tried Zimmerman etc & they're fine for an hour or so's hard use & that's it.

Nick.
Ive found the Oranges work well for me..[ M030 front callipers.]

BUT

On Big reds, i believe the blues are ample...As your not putting as much pressure / heat through them...

I have Porterfields on at present but in general use they don't stay warm enough to get the best out of them. There's nothing "wrong" with them from cold, and they're amazing when hot, but I think something less extreme will serve me better on the road.

RSs are cheaper because they are one piece. 993TT are 2 piece.

Are the 2-piece lighter & can the rotor be replaced independantly of the bell? Might be a better option if there's significant weight saving...

Being two piece the 993 TT discs are less prone to warping than the 993 RS ones. We have used both on a 993 Supercup car and the owner/driver prefers the 993 TT ones. They last a little longer too!
Cheers,
Richard.
