Big Brake conversion TVR "S"
Discussion
hallo,
Iám trying to put together a BIG bake uograde for the "S" Fronts 278 x 24 with Cosworth Scorpio calipers, new pads and for the reara a complete set to convert to discs ( 273 x 20). The rears come complete with calipers, wheelbearing cariiers. pads, the lot. Should there be interest in such a set-up ??

Stick with the front and rears off of a 2wd Sierra Cossie, not 4wd.
RS Cosworth 2WD 1993cc 86-90 F-V "NBD 203" 283.0 24.0 22.5 55.0 63.5 4
RS Cosworth 2WD Rear Disc 86-90 R-S "NBD 219" 273.0 10.3 8.9 33.0 63.5 4
The NBD numbers are for the disks. Calipers off the same vehicle will work and keep the same balance that ford intended. TVR brake balance is crap, V8S has rears from the Cosworth and the fronts off a standatd 2L Sierrra

Hello All,
I'm about to install the brake upgrade as Hans described.
Do I understand that the excisting brakepressure regulator doesn't do a good job in this setup?
What COULD be done to create a well balanced braking system? Do "reasonably priced" adjustable brake balancers exsist???
I'm all ears!!!!
Cheers

You need to get the static balance right (which is a matter of master/slave piston areas and caliper geometry) and then set the dynamic balance using a bias valve. The bias valve is the easy part (you will probably need an adjustable one since you're probably running at a different line pressure now) but getting the static balance right may require more fundamental changes.
Hello All, greenv8S
I read your post in the griffith chapter "recalculate the line pressures front/rear to get the right static balance and then correct the bias valve to suit" That clarifies your comments.
I will be looking for the pressure formula...should be a function of caliper diameter and travel. With an adjustable biasvalve there will be room for experimenting/trail-and-error.
Can those valves be sourced somewhere? That should be a welcome addition to HansDaal his brakeupgradepackage?
How about http://store.summitracing.com/partdet
That is a single line in and single line out proportioning valve for $35,94...mmm (I have no affiliation with summit racing!)
Cheers

Doing some more searching and found interesting tests designed by....uh....someone...
"Is the brake balance reasonable under heavy braking? It isn't easy to spot unless the balance is *miles* out, but if you can find somewhere with plenty of space, get up to 50 mph or so and then with the car turning gently brake firmly then harder and harder until it locks up - ideally at 20 - 30 mph or so. If the back tried to step out you know that end is locking first. If the front started to push on you know the front is locking first. Based on past experience I'd expect to find the rear locked slightly before the fronts, but there are all sorts of factors that vary between cars which will affect this."

Reading this whole thread again, greenv8s, Mmm..yes, I guess I assumed wrongly that static balance would be about ok when calipers are sourced from one type of car. There is the master cylinder etc too. Pretty complicated stuff.
Too bad I will still have to wait till my car is restored to test how Hans his plan workes out in practice.
To answer the question: I think there would be interest if all the parts are like new. Painted, with new hoses...ready to install.
