Ceramic brakes are designed for the track..........!....
Discussion
well thats what Porsche chiswick just told me! Word for word!
I have ceramics on my GT2 - just considering the alcon changing alternatives so I can do some trackdays next season.
Now I am not technically minded.....BUT is there any possibilty that the ceramics will work well on the track if I take care in doing warm up laps and cool down laps and don't just stamp on them??? I have seen plenty of comments on here about ceramics failing and mine are currently I quote "in excellent condition" according to porsche........what to do?!
MORE Importantly......guess what I just saw.....they have a GT3 RS under covers not on display yet so I managed to get a sneaky look...orange, black wheels....it looked amazing and some lucky sod is picking it up tomorrow!!!

I have never had any problems getting warranty work done, and they know it's been on track... well the big numbers on the back may have given the game away too!!
Edited to add. Ceramics at least the previous generation ones will work on track for a few thousand miles, then the surface will begin to delaminate and pit (this starts on the inside of the disk) and hey presto... they're in the bin.
I tried my best to look after mine. They made about 12 trackdays.

Actually, whilst the very latest PCCBs might well be fine for sustained track use, current wisdom suggests that the benefits are just as relevant for regular road use.
If you have the earlier PCCBs, take advice on how to maximise their life. But, if you do use them on track, and encounter problems, then switch to steel. Or, remove them now and box them away for the future.

ohhh big mistake, you told them your going to track it.
if you ever want a claim on the warranty they will stand fast on that one.
window winding motor gone? that'll be cos you tracked it Sir. etc.

lol.....its hard to claim on a porsche warranty when you don't have one.....besides they said that the ceramics wouldn't be warranted anyhow...I suggested to them that I would like to take it on the track not that I definately will.....
I could box them up thats a serious consideration, the alcons sound good - worse case scenario I brake them and change them, alcons aren't exactly too expensive. I am just unsure how they perform ie ceramics vs alcons - similar stopping power ? unsprung weight change noticable? etc
Or will I have to pay a higher congestion charge in london for having big brakes ?

Totally disagree with you here Ducati... Porsche honour there warranty work on the car regardless whether it has been on the track or not.
Of course - Wear and tear does not come into it - when ever does it?
111 point check is around £330 all in as the bloke who just bought my C4 had one done - it included crucial items such as "vanity flap not working" - so do you pay this plus the warranty, so near £1200 - is it worth it? I have had 4 911s now and never would have overly benefitted from a warranty so far as have only really gone through brakes, clutches etc...I guess a couple of oil leaks
mine came with a new gearbox which was actually a result.....engine - yes at that price its worth every penny - like you said my warranty has a limit of ...wait for it ...£1000 wohoooooo.....that will cover my vanity mirror lol! How likely is it that engines go pop on GT2s? Mind you mine has been tuned so I assume it wont be covered so actually I am buggered regardless

It depends,
With gearboxes coming in at 12k and engines at 20 - 30k, coupled to the fact most after market warrenty's only have a 5k limit.
id say so for peace of mind, Plus you get the porsche assist which is always handy.

hey andy did I read recently that you have the manthey treatment on your GT2? Worth the money - whats the change like? Where did you get it done and how much was it? I am thinking of adjusting mine to fast road/track use but the manthey option is a possibilty - what do you think?
thanks
